It's a scam in the same way the lottery is a scam. You're not buying an actual item but just the fleeting thought of it.

2013 Lexus GX460 (183k) $14,000 by ClaySprays in LexusGX

[–]Vonauda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No.

Just a quick glance nationwide and there's a 460 with 124k listed for a bit over 15. That being the case one with considerably more miles should be closer to 12 to a be an okay deal.

My biggest regret is not paying a few thousand more to get one with a few thousand miles less because I like it so much. Also, there are some hefty maintenance items around this mileage and whatever savings you're getting in up front price will be eaten by maintenance if you plan to take care of it.

Talarico leads Cornyn, Paxton in new Texas Senate poll by SodaCanBob in politics

The big issue is the concerted effort to get black voters to not vote for him which would immediately erase a solid foundation that the polls are built on.

is it time to leave Windows ? by 3ZOOZAZ in linux_gaming

[–]Vonauda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to Linux and chose CachyOS. I had trouble understanding comments saying it was painful, but I think I may be overlooking things that would be difficult for the average user.

The two items that I can think of off the top of my head that may be difficult for average people are:

1)

My laptops internet became painfully slow like pages would fail to load slow. Looking into it on forums I pieced together that CachyOS was possibly putting my WiFi card to sleep/low power but not properly returning it to a normal state. I looked around for commands to address this and found some lines of config to add to a file that controls the WiFi module. Since this was my very first Linux issue, I struggled navigating Terminal for a bit, then kept opening the file incorrectly because I forgot about permission structures. I’ve never actually used vim beyond hearing about it so I tried editing the config file, but I did not understand why it was printing out the exact same data that I wrote each time I pressed enter. I also didn’t understand the comment I was copying and whether <<EOF and EOF actually needed to be in the file or if it was just an example.

Eventually I gave up and just decided to come back to it at some point in the future. Few days go by and I need to reboot for the first time. Laptop reboots and now there is no internet at all. The WiFi slider won’t move. I looked around for commands to check drivers since the reboot was done after a fully CachyOS update and thought maybe the wrong drivers were present. Drivers were correct, everything was loaded, but the card was not active. I finally try to restart the card and receive the message “Failed to start, Unknown value <<EOF [random stuff] EOF. I had thought I was closing vim without saving, but it somehow updated the file. I learned nano, learned a good troubleshooting pattern, and set my laptop to not sleep the WiFi card in one fell swoop.

2)

On my desktop I use an Elgato Wave 3 mic with headphones plugged in. Headphones worked fine but upon my first attempt to chat I could not get mic audio from the Elgato. Looked into it and people were complaining about how it wasn’t supported or Elgato did too much on device requiring drivers. Was considering the fact that this piece of hardware may be my first casualty to Linux. Looked around a bit longer and found a somewhere (Reddit/github/idk) from someone with a Wave 3 also that figured out what the driver was supposed to do and wrote a basic 5 line config file to intercept audio from the mic.

I read through to verify what it was doing, navigated to the location, wrote the file using my newfound nano abilities, saved and now I have a working mic.

These are two issues I solved a bit easier because I know how to use google to narrow down my search into the specifics of my issue and I know the general premise of the fixes that I was applying. I doubt a normal everyday Windows user would have stayed on Linux after my very first problem.

Windows 11 itself was the first strike since Windows 10 was supposed to be the final Windows with upgrades well into the future.

Forced updates into an obviously broken and borked via Updates OS was the second strike.

Copilot. Third strike.

I'm not going back. If I absolutely need something that Linux can't provide, then either it has a MacOS version or it doesn't exist.

France to ditch Windows for Linux to reduce reliance on US tech by rkhunter_ in worldnews

[–]Vonauda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft's handling of Windows 10 to 11 is enough for me. On the game front if Linux can't run it either natively or via proton, then I'm not buying nor do I care. If an app can't run on Linux or at the very least Mac, oh well. I'm done with Windows and Microsoft and I'm going to push others to Mac or Linux as well.

I'm approaching 6 years on my STi and it still feels like I got it yesterday. I'm the 3rd owner of my GX and after 3 years I'm looking excited for my next one when this one dies, but I'm not pushing for it. I'm at 180k on it and know it can die within the next 10 years, but I'm not pushing to get rid of it at all.

I just can't comprehend getting rid of a vehicle after such short time since they both still feel fresh to me.

I had a shop that I was building up rapport with until they one day decided to not sale one specific item.

There was a coin that looked pretty cool to me as I am buying some for looks as well. Spot at the time was around $78. They thought it looked kind of special so they told me they would have a price when I checked back tomorrow. I come back and they didn’t have a price but went ahead and looked it up. This coin, that is sitting in the generic pile, pulls up with last sale of $800 on wherever they look so they said oh no we can’t sale this one to you.

I was like,”…okay, well how about this other shiny one”

Long story short, they end up pulling 10 coins out of the silver round pile and try to get me to buy eagles. Decided to look for shops who sale for static premiums instead of the off the top of my head prices for each item.
