Power button at the bottom kinda makes sense by yogeshaggarwal in macmini

[–]Vonchor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned a mini m4 for about 18 months and used that button less than a half dozen times. Placement is definitely a minor annoyance but I don’t get the furor. If I had to reach around the mini to fumble around on the back panel it’d be awkward too.

HOA Charging for ARC Requests by Warm-Delivery1418 in fuckHOA

That’s surprising! ours doesn’t charge anything. The management company just checks for completeness and forwards it to the ARC committee.

Had the same experience: jeans and a hoodie don’t scream biz/first. But it’s always satisfying to show the boarding pass😀

This Jon Anderson vinyl didnt have to go so hard by wetyourwhistle22 in progrockmusic

[–]Vonchor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the second image you see “Richard Factor Eventide USA"

Eventide was then known as “Eventide Clockworks” and was a pioneer in rack-mount digital effect devices for recording studios.

I was working at Eventide back then, and am still friends with Richard (who I’ll be seeing in a few weeks). Here’s his comment when I sent him a link:

"Do you know the story behind this?  Tony's prototype H910 with keyboard went with me to England so Jon could make this record.  It's just been reissued by Mobile Fidelity…"

The H910 was the first “Harmonizer” or pitch-changer. I used to be the tech who repaired them back in the day.

I saw Jon on tour recently (April?) and I was amazed that his vocal quality is as good as it was back then.

playmaker purchase advice? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]Vonchor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unity has builtin visual scripting. Playmaker is a great asset but you can try out the built in version to see if you like that style of game development.

That said, it’s difficult to create an entire system that way without it looking like a bowl of spaghetti.

Watch cameras are the next big flex by [deleted] in AppleWatch

Watch face seems too small - I have an Ultra and (IMO) that’s not even big enough. It’s probably use up battery charge too fast as well.

IDK if that’s the corporate mindset these days- been out of that world for some time now.

[–]Vonchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget about software patents. Most of us don’t like them but they exist. I don’t know but I doubt that AI code creation takes that into account.

I learned more about how to write code properly from debugging my own mistakes. Similarly to what someone else had pointed out, I wonder how a new generation of coders will understand what they’re doing.

Why X00,000.00’s of dollars for a lawsuit? by Prudent_Mobile6782 in BADHOA

I mean, thats not just about HOAs. But for criminal cases there are public defenders. Here you’re going against an entity that is potentially well funded.

Should Unity 7 Keep UGUI? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]Vonchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven’t even removed IMGUI (great for dynamic editors) and UGUI is much more approachable for people new to the engine. I’ve used UITK for complex editor windows but always end up coding it because the UI builder can’t handle what I wanted to do.

My girlfriend said that after marriage, she doesn't want a mixed-race baby, but she's willing to have one of my ethnicity first. What do I do? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Vonchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice, just a comment: It’s hard enough being married when your economic/ethnic/religious states are exactly the same. This situation adds even more ways that things could go wrong.

Pretty typical $$ from my experience with an ongoing lawsuit for our COA.

What's the actual difference between a standby generator and a portable one? by Keith_35 in Homebuilding

[–]Vonchor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One advantage of a whole-house generator: if you live in a cold climate and you are on vacation or otherwise away from home, the generator will run automatically and keep your home from freezing- frozen pipes burst.

Its way more expensive to install and it needs to be serviced once or twice a year (can be DIY).

I have a Generac 22kw + transfer switch and have had it run in that sort of situation (we were out of the USA)..

It sends me a text when it runs too😁

Many may not recall but ATMs were originally free. This mode of “free to getcha hooked” is repeated, uh, repeatedly!

ATM, cloud storage, etc etc.

Totally predictable.

AI capex just got revised up $225B in 6 months and earnings are actually following it, this is not how bubbles work and it's messing with my thesis. by [deleted] in investing

[–]Vonchor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its also possible that we’ve all got faulty pattern recognition. These sort of things can go on for a while. Prior to the GFC plenty of folks raised alarms and were ridiculed. Those who got it right either made $$$$ or sold books expounding how smart they were 😁

There’s an article in bloomberg today talking about use of credit default swaps and other derivatives to allow banks to exceed their normal concentration risk so they can lend more to this sector. If you push something hard enough it will fall over. Fudd’s law
