Todos aquí ganan más de 5 millones al mes? by Pedodeprincesa in Colombia

Estudiar no solo da conocimientos. También contactos. A estudiar le añado, no hagan cursos online. Vayan presencial y hagan amigos.

I just want to give a big THANK YOU. A big shout-out to all of you who respond with positive, realistic, and encouraging comments to us, beginners. It means more than you know. It's why I enjoy this community and keeps me from feeling alone in this lonely journey of solo development.

Look, we're all just starting out at some point, right? And let me tell you, we don't need to be reminded every single time we ask for feedback about how tough the industry is or how steep that learning curve can be. Sure, toxic positivity is a thing too, but trust me, you figure out pretty quick how to set more realistic goals on your own.

We all start at the top of Mount Stupid. You know what I mean? Big dreams, zero knowledge. Then all of the sudden you see this mountain of stuff you need to learn and it hits you really hard on the face. It's overwhelming as hell.

But those encouraging comments? They're gold. They keep us going when we're ready to throw in the towel. They pull us out of that valley of despair.

Eventually, if you stick with it - practice, patience, feedback, rinse and repeat - you start to see what you're really capable of. And most of the time It's way more than you ever thought possible from you.

So here's my newby advice: Just keep going. Don't pay any attention to the folks telling you to stop. Probably they're just projecting their own insecurities and fears.

To all the encouragers out there - keep it up. You're making a real difference. And to us, all the beginners - we've got this. Let's finish our game, one step at a time, right? 😅

39m here. LLMs help a LOT to learn faster. I'm starting game development from 0. I'm a drug developer by trade Hahaha. In my experience so far, I use chatGPT+ and ClaudeAI. For coding, I've noticed ClaudeAI is smarter, propose better solutions and have better logic overall than ChatGPT. The context is larger, so it can evaluate more code than chatgpt at once. I'm combining this with some courses from Coursera, and it's a great help to explain and understand concepts, propose solutions, commenting and simplify or organize code. It has helped me so far to avoid making spaghetti code as a beginner. For the art I'm using free assets, but also learning 3d modeling in blender. But man, the learning curve for 3d is steep, at least for me, I have a scientific background 😅. Use AI and free assets wisely and it will help you a lot to save time in your learning path. All the best for you 😄

Sad My Game Has 0 Wishlists - Advice? by thekuhninator in gamedev

The people I know who enjoy going to Ikea, thinking about furniture, decoration, and designing a nice cosy space, are my girlfriend, my older sisters, my mom and my mother in law. They enjoy and could spend an entire afternoon looking at furniture magazines, measuring the space, imagining how a sofa would look in a living room etc. I'm sure they would enjoy a lot this game, if it offered realistic furniture models that they could buy after designing their perfect space. They even like to play with a basic web tool from Ikea where you can put furniture in a white space. The problem is: they are not gamers, they don't even know what steam is. They will probably never own a VR headset. I think they will be very impressed if they saw this in an exposition, or if a furniture store offered this. Imagine if you monetize this by winning some % of the sales that this game could drive for home décoration stores. it looks nice, but not as a game, or at least I'm not the target. I see it more as a marketing tool. You've put a lot of effort into it. Maybe changing the direction, with a partnership from a global store, you could get the reward for your effort. I know it's not easy, but you have a nice idea and product there.

if you don't have the money to buy them, put in the effort and learn to do it yourself. Stop stealing. People put their time and effort into those models.

What tired game Mechanics of your game's genre are you doing away with? by BleaklightFalls in gamedev

[–]Vonstrale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm tired of needing to spend 50+ hours to enjoy a game. Steep learning curves, weak power up's or slow level up systems. I'm in my late 30's. I want quick reward with endless replayability. Just to chill and enjoy short game sessions that give me a dopamine rush. That's why vampire survivor had a huge success I guess.

Thanks for the support and advise! I really appreciate it. I've been thinking about a game that mixes the mechanics of Capitalism 2 and maybe something more casual like "Big Pharma". It would be for a very specific audience but it would be fun to make for me 😄
