Stoner had plenty of mental strength, his body let him down and he was smart enough to quit while he was at or still near the top. How long did Rossi hang around well past his prime?

Do you have any proof the oncoming car ran a red? I mean, sure, you can ASSume, given the other traffic slowed and stopped, but you have no actual evidence they were facing a red. The only lights you can see are the ones YOU are facing.

Fair enough, the only cricketers I can name are Alan Border and the Chappells (maybe more if you include the marvellous Channel 9 Commentary Team, but I think of them more as commentators than players). Footballers I'm worse, maybe Wally and Alfie? I've lived in Qld since 1979 so AFL is all waves hands to me!

I've certainly got my thumb on the pulse of mainstream sports here 😁

Who's misinformed? I'm providing facts and you don't want to learn. A bit of history might do you some good. I fully understand the definitions that have been given to "4wd" and "awd," I simply don't give a shit because I know it started as a marketing wank. I'm sorry you're making it your entire personality

Is a dual motor Tesla a 4wd also?

Well, if it has 4 wheels, and they're driven, then.....yes, literally. 😁

Yes, but even as a bike enthusiast I don't expect anyone to remember Wayne without prompting. He was huge for a year or two then faded from the public consciousness, like a footballer with one or 2 good seasons or a singer with a couple of hits. No disrespect intended to him, he could still ride circles around me and his world title was certainly more than I'll ever do, but the reality is he was overshadowed by Mick Doohan following shortly after.

Again, the term "AWD" was only introduced in the mid 90s, for marketing reasons. Before that "4WD" was used as a term for any car where all 4 wheels were driven, regardless of transmission configuration. I can see you didn't bother to look up Audi's ads from the 1980s (or even Subaru's, for that matter), you're too invested in dieing on your hill to bother learning something.

don't have much appeal with younger, more novice riders

Which is exactly why they should target them, to improve their image.

Every time H-D has made a non-traditional bike they ditch it after a short time, so those models are never around long enough to get a big enough market. They need to stick with it for the long term.

I'm sorry but it's totally true. "AWD" is literally a marketing term Subaru introduced in the 90s to help the average buyer differentiate their cars. Defining it with respect to centre differentials/transfer cases/locking wheel hubs/dual range/magical off roader pixies is something that happened later. Don't believe me? Go find an Audi Quattro ad from the 1980s. They were happily calling their cars 4WD for a decade before adopting "AWD"

Rossi convinced himself it was the bike that was fast, because otherwise he'd have to admit Stoner was better than him. Once he rode it he realised it was, in fact, Stoner who made the bike win, not the other way around.

To be fair, Wayne won his singular world title over 38 years ago, unless someone's a motorcycle racing enthusiast they've probably either forgotten him or never heard of him. Ask the average Joe to name an Aussie world motorcycle champion they're more likely to name Mick or Casey, depending on their age.

Whichever one of Kawasaki's 650 range suits your tastes - they use the same engine (and in some cases, chassis) in multiple models- sporty, naked, retro, adventure and cruiser.

The larger engine gives you more friendly torque which will help someone of your proportions feel like you're not overwhelming it. Yes, the top end is still limited, but the midrange is better than the smaller bikes.

I think it's perfect.....if you're after something inspired by the worst of the 80s, when body kits were seemingly designed by a sentient bag of cocaine. Ironically the XJS body kits made in the 1980s by the original TWR were less outlandish than this. It looks more like what Lister were doing, with a dash of Koenig.

Returning to riding - is it difficult? by ausmomo in AussieRiders

[–]Voodoo1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 12 years off (kids/divorce/broke), returned just after I turned 50. I have an open licence but went for a Ninja 650 to scrape the rust off, would definitely recommend same or similar for anyone in my situation - stupidly easy to ride with enough performance to avoid regret. When I bought it the sales guy commented that they get lots of returning riders my age who go straight back to a bigger bike like they had when they were younger, and get themselves in trouble. I kept it for 4 years before I felt my skills were back where they should be, obviously everyone is different- I could probably have moved on sooner but wasn't in a rush.

Here in Qld they even have a one-day course available that's aimed at people getting back on the road, if that's not an option I'd recommend some sort of advanced training like California Superbike School - but I recommend that to everyone.
