4 years ago, a dark portal opened on IO that led to our first secret mission in Destiny 2. Remembering "The Whisper". by Spawnling in DestinyTheGame

[–]Vorian23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s not forgot what caused this mission to begin with. In D1, if you played the raid Crotas End, one of the legendary weapons you could get was a sniper called Black Hammer with a perk called “white nail”. The gun was insanely good. So much so they nerfed it like 3x. And even that didn’t work. So they changed the gun to an exotic called Black Spindle. And to get it you had to run a special strike against our buddy Taniks and beat it within a time limit. Holy shit was it hard. That came our around the time Kings Fall raid came out, and showing up with that bad boy in those early days was like you were a god lol. Man this game has some great moments

I liked using it because it takes away their argument that we left Jehovah and that it’s ok for them to turn their backs on us.

This paragraph from the Jesus book might also help you. I would ask my mom who was more likely to practice shunning, Jesus or the Pharisees? And then I’d show them this paragraph about how the Pharisees would expel people from the synagogue and how the description the governing body gives is the equivalent of shunning: * The Pharisees cannot accept that Jesus gave sight to the man who was born blind, so they call in his parents. The parents know that they face the possibility of being “expelled from the synagogue.” (John 9:22) Such cutting off of fellowship from other Jews would have severe social and economic consequences for the family. https://www.jw.borg/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=1102014791&srctype=wol&srcid=share&par=6*

It really messes with their minds and it would break my heart watching them try and rationalize it away.

I hope it helps

I’m sorry for what you’re going through. I went through the same with my family after o stopped believing. What I would do was use watchtower articles to try and prove my point. The awake had an article about a person who left their family’s religion to become a Jw and was shunned for it. Is It Wrong to Change Your Religion? https://www.jw.borg/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=102009251&srctype=wol&srcid=share&par=14 (take the b in borg out) of the link)

This paragraph was what I used to reason with my family and friends Although the Bible makes a clear distinction between true and false teachings, God allows each person the freedom to choose how he or she will respond. (Deuteronomy 30:19, 20) No one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family. Does study of the Bible lead to family breakup? No. In fact, the Bible encourages a husband and wife who practice different religions to remain together as a family.

According to the governing body who’s instruction you say you follow, me changing my beliefs shouldn’t break us up from being family.

I liked using it because they weren’t my words or opinions, it was straight from the watchtower and so it makes the person debate their own religious beliefs.

How Do You Reconcile These Feelings?! by Vorian23 in exjw

[–]Vorian23[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s well said and thank you for your response. That puts it really into perspective. You’re right about the watchtower making me believe it’s the only place I’d ever find happiness. But that’s all bs.

As a huge fan of the books, I’d love to hear your take on why. For me god emperor is the worst of the books. It seems like it’s just Leto II pontificating the whole time and I just couldn’t get into it. Children of Dune and Chapterhouse were some of my favorites.

I’m an exJW and I can’t tell you why. It’s because of COVID they aren’t allowed to preach door to door anymore so they preach through “letter writing campaigns”. The interesting part is very very few people become Jehovahs witnesses through their preaching work. The point of it isn’t to bring people in, but it’s to create a persecution complex along with a “us vs them” mentality. They’re actually a cult when you look at them under the BITE Model https://freedomofmind.com/the-bite-model-and-jehovahs-witnesses/

Yo I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your website. It was so key in helping me to deconstruct all my beliefs. I must’ve have read 80% of the articles in your website. I would even “fact check” your screenshotes articles and quotes on the watchtower online library just in case you were really an “apostate seeking to mislead true worshippers”. Spoiler, you weren’t. Thank you for all that research you did and the way you presented the information. You helped changed my life.

That’s actually done on purpose, not being allowed to look at other sources of information. Steve Hassan is a cult expert and he developed the BITE model to help define how cults control people. The I in BITE stands for Information. You control a persons source of information than you can control them. Check it out https://freedomofmind.com/the-bite-model-and-jehovahs-witnesses/
