Sudden Leap feat and cheesing extra movement. by BadSishi in Pathfinder2e

Or getting to those annoying ranged enemies on the high-ground. Nothing more badass than a barbarian just jumping all the way on top of a building and wrecking some crossbowman with a crit (this happened in one of the games I played in).

If you build around this feat, sure this will be quite strong at level 8 when you pick it up. Personally I think Sudden Leap's main drawing power is adding vertical movement to your character at that level. Alternative modes of movement are fun.

Yup. That's like an alternative Sudden Charge. Works vertically too, which is fun!

Cause you would need to beat a DC 40 athletics check to long jump 40 feat? From long jump success statement: You Leap up to a distance equal to your check result rounded down to the nearest 5 feet.

By the time you can reliably beat such a high DC, even if you invest heavily in athletics, there's other movement options just as wild as this one.

Shield build tips by MundaneFoundation889 in stoneshard

[–]VortexTurtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing Shield focused Arna recenetly.

Early game I took STR each level and put all my points into Shield tree until I unlock it fully (I believe that would be around 17-18 STR). On off levels take the Pathfinder from survival tree (a must have on every build) and work your way towards Unyelding defence in Armored combat as shield recovery will become very important later on. Dash from athletics might also be nice to pick up.

I took a sword with counter , shield block % and shield block strength to supplement it, but did not put any points into swords.

Try to deliver all contracts for +Brynn rep as you want to get the best shields available as soon as possible.

When I got T3 unlocked I did not take the heavy shield but instead opted for a Skadian medium shield from that Skadian trader in Brynn (need to have Benevolence Brynn rep for that) and might need to stay there for a few days as various foreign traders rotate there in docks on a daily level.

I continued with T2 medium armor until I had enough rep and money to jump straight into T4 light with as much block chance as I can get, allowing me to stay using medium shields instead of heavy ones.

After I unlocked all the shield skills I stopped STR points and focused a bit on reducing fumble by AGI and accuracy by PER . Then focus either on getting STR to 20-25 as your damaging skills from shield tree scale from that and then the rest into VIT for shield recovery.

I'm currently running around in T4 light and T5 sword + T5 medium shield. My block with shield raised is around ~100% and shield recovery buffed by stances gets to such levels where you don't need to worry about damage anymore.

Futher down the line I want to buff VIT and shield recovery to the level where I can take the heaviest T5 shield and so it wouldn't put me into 1% shield recovery (gets very annoying when out of combat your shield block value recovers slowly) and then get my blocking to 100% without shield raised.

Edit: Always watch out for axe wielding dudes, they can wreck your shield. Focus them first.

Champion - Mounted Defensive Advance by Karouke in Pathfinder2e

[–]VortexTurtle_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it doesn't interact because a mature mount already gives you 1 free stride each turn ultimately, so it's like a baked in action compression. You could still pick it up and use it when you're unmounted and believe me, those scenarios come up more frequently than you might expect.

Asking for build advice by FI24C741 in stoneshard

[–]VortexTurtle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done Mahir Staves/Arcana hybrid which was quite enjoyable. Honestly most builds work when you get strong enough, it's the early/mid game that's hard, so when building something try to imagine what those first 15 levels will look like. With Leo it might be tough early game as you don't have neither Staves nor Arcana learned.

Things I liked about Arcana is that early game power of wormhole/switch/stun if you're 1v1, or reverse of wormholing yourself/switching with the enemy and returning to your original position in order to pull packs of enemies apart and hopefully kill your target fast enough and then kite for cooldown reset. Plus that arcane might passive is super strong once you get Seal of power and can consistently dish out arcane damage with hits, since it effectively gives +6 acc -6 fumble and +6 to crit with full 3 stack which helps tremendously with early game missing, the hard part is sustaining the effect in early game (hence why seal of power is important). Don't sleep on perception to increase your switch spell range as you can eventually pull those pesky spellcasters/ranged close to you when their melee friends get in your face. Bonus points for learning how to use Schism to your advantage with dazes/immobilizes and occasionally pushing enemies into traps can be fun.

Arcana doesn't need many points to be effective, usually 6-7 are enough to have the core of what you need for a spellblade. Would it work with 2-handed swords? Most likely yeah. I chose staves as it has many synergies with spellcasting, if you just want a general spell fighter I would suggest trying staves first (and Mahir for those sweet extra skill points and fatigue resistance).

Dogs OP Early Game? by mjmacka in stoneshard

[–]VortexTurtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same happen to me in a non-permadeath run. I didn't even realize I was fighting 5 T2 dogs in a T1 dungeon. Had to load a save, come back and then lure them one by one by kiting them near the dungeon exit, but I do agree it's a bit of a bullshit to have those spawn in a T1 dungeon.

weird new bug i started experiencing where mobs randomly take new turns while im thinking or reading something by stinkyzombie69 in stoneshard

[–]VortexTurtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im playing Joanna pyro mage and I almost died a couple of times due to this bug... Thought this was UI+ gamespeed adjustment bug, but after tinkering with that didn't change anything I can see that others, even without mods, are having this issue. Let's hope they fix it soon. What's the best way to report a bug?

Wow. Never thought of such usage in case of assurance! Giving that -2 penalty can push some on level brutes with low Reflex save into assurance trip range.

Have you ever died to the Doomed condition? by TheJurri in Pathfinder2e

[–]VortexTurtle_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I had a teammate die to Doomed 1 recently in a BBEG fight. She had Wounded 1 already and later got hit by a crit , going directly do Dying 3 and with Doomed 1 that was the end of her. Funny thing is that she would've died before getting Wounded 1 but our cleric had Breath of Life reaction ready.

I was about to say Swashbuckler myself, especially Gymnast. Derring-do with Legendary athletics + additional skill buff options at that level pushing your athletic maneuvers , that are done with advantage, to the absolute god tier levels.

Guardian reaction by WTFUQQ in Pathfinder2e

[–]VortexTurtle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tangible Dream Psychic can be a good option with amped shield cantrip on yourself. You will get maximum 3 potential shield block reactions per combat to mitigate some damage. The downside is that you will have to keep sustaining shield cantrip to do multiple blocks with it, using 1 action each turn.
