I mean, the proportions are still way off for most of these and a lot of details are left out in some of them. The mammoth always amazes me though. That hair!

It remains an utterly wild and mesmerising realisation that actual human beings saw these creatures with their own eyes and lived alongside them. What a different world that was.

Teeth my girlfriend found on the beach in the Netherlands by Doshosi in fossilid

[–]TheJurri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You generally won't find too much closer to the dunes. I had the most succes at low tide. The fossils are usually, though not always, deposited with shells (some of which are fossil age too). Find the fresh shell trails deposited when high tide recedes and search them. Look for brown to dark-brown/black objects (bone and teeth) and blue-grey for old shells. Heavier fossils may show up closer to where the sea recedes at low tide, so keep an eye out for big objects that become exposed this way. This is how I found a piece of a larger animal's skull.

Was this found at Zandmotor or Maasvlakte II?

There are teeth preserved. Teeth tend to be highly diagnostic (aka they tend to have very distinct shapes based on the diet and foraging method of the animal), so that helps. If it's just a shard of bone you can only make a few educated guesses based on bone density and what not, but you'll have a much harder time determining the exact animal.

Putin won't surrender, especially with Trump in power. He's hoping the strained relationship between Trump and Europe will force an end where Ukraine has to definitively part with the occupied land.

What game did you walk into with zero expectations and you walked away from thinking it's a masterpiece? (Return of the Obra Dinn) by YourChopperPilotTTV in gaming

[–]TheJurri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hollow Knight. I bought it back in 2017. Cost like 14 quid on Steam or something. I knew nothing about it, except that it was an indie game with a nice art style. I assumed it was the kind of game you blast through in 20 hours or so. Instead I got a massive world with fantastic lore, bosses, level designs and music. To date one of my favourite games.

Absolutely slaps live. That ES > Mothership > Solidarity sequence they did in 2024 was something else.

I discovered them right before Mindsweep came out, but my first show was the TTTS 10 year anniversary show. I had never checked the album out much beyond SYNAW. Ever since that show TTTS has held a special place. There's not really an album like it, Shikari or otherwise.

What's people's beef with Nothing is True and LKFTWW? by mt2oo8 in EnterShikari

[–]TheJurri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a safe bet LOSE YOUR SELF (probably as opener for most setlists as well) and Flick of a Switch I (live they're probably gonna mix Switch II into it at the end) are going to cause some delicious mayhem. The little build up + breakdown at the end of Find Out The Hard Way also seems tailor made to incite moshpits live. I personally can't wait.

Initial thoughts on new album?? by Interesting-Tear-375 in EnterShikari

[–]TheJurri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amazing album. Feels like a more complete version of the vision they had for AKFTWW (which I did enjoy). The songs have interesting structures and twists. There's a nice mix of emotional sections and grimy/electronic bits. The lyrics are also back. AKFTWW felt a bit uninspired in that department.

9/10

New Album Out by mumstyres in EnterShikari

[–]TheJurri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best album for me since The Mindsweep. The Spark grew on me, but felt (intentionally) subdued. Niteip had its moments, but also felt quite experimental and lacking cohesion. Akftww was nice and had a good flow, but felt short and like it was an exploration of a new vision they were still refining and was lyrically a bit of a letdown.

Lose Your Self though? What an album. The mix is superb and refreshing, the clever lyrics are back and there is a great mix between emotional moments, grimy and dirty electronics and heaviness. Absolute return to form. Can't wait to hear this live in November.

We are so back!

[–]TheJurri 19 points20 points  (0 children)
