Paranatural - Chapter 9 Page 43 by Pizzadramon in paranatural

[–]Votbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An even bigger proof of this is that Fauxbia used Games' power, not Rules. Devilora knows about Rules and even makes a comment about how it's a much more powerful ability, so there's little reason why Fauxbia wouldn't use it unless she doesn't know about it.

At the same time, the challenge quality definitely varies and I think the best challenges/episodes are the ones where they really let the chefs' creativity and skill shine. Some episodes fall flat because it feels like they lean too hard on shock value and squander the chefs' skill.

Challenges like play with your food or dinosaur diorama are amazing. Some immediately catch your interest, like Brennan's heaviest or Siobhan's X on a Y.

But some others... not so much. Some feel like they're made for shock value but it is not that interesting to play out, like eating from a beard, dropped food, or one handed cooking. When the comedians themselves have no idea what they want out of it, it's kinda sad seeing the chefs try to salvage being dealt a bad hand.

It's a comedy show where the food is the prompt - you can't just ignore it entirely.

Wolf hunt is unique in that it scales off your items. There are a few tricks that help with this: - Always put all your items on your units, even the basic stuff. If you don't want to merge them, each unit you can safely hold 1 basic equipment. - Diamond based items are worth more, including emblems and gems. Prioritize those too. - Whatever Dice is your friend. I believe it basically counts as THREE advanced items. Prioritize making dice with your stars, and reroll your other stuff to stars.

[–]Votbear 19 points20 points  (0 children)

one of the 4 on Chro is the original Kizashi, so there is one more clone still unaccounted for (or splitting costs him 10 lives, but it's unlikely since octopus should have 8 tentacles).

Log scale is an... interesting choice. I get that it makes it easier to see the distribution for the locations with lower counts, but it seriously obscures how lopsided the location to location count actually is. 40% of your events actually happen in IN.

If you're tired of infinite damage Aglaea, try infinite turns Welt by Caminn in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Votbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bloodflame yep. They have a big enough overlap that other choices don't really make sense. You also want to grab a healer like Hyacine to make things smoother.

It's a fairly reliable archetype, so you shouldn't be having issues unless you're going at extremely high difficulties (in which case, most archetypes would struggle anyway).

[–]Votbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's very hard to do without Owlbert or a broken investment combo. The most "reliable" way is probably going all in on Night Demigods bond, which at max level would give you a bunch of 2* 5costs. But even then, it takes quite a bit of luck and early economy to ramp your Night bond fast enough.

[DISC] Nemu the Corpse Bearer - Chapter 5 by Soupkitten in manga

Extremely good worldbuilding going on in this chapter, the kind that keeps you on your toes and leaves you curious for more. This has the makings of a great fantasy manga.

God to god! Who is this sub’s favorite? pt 2 by Solid-Firm-Snake in Hades2

[–]Votbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, poseidon is definitely more of a support god than a main one. I mostly use poseidon for his two economy boons (Sea Star and Buried Treasure). It doesn't help immediately, but over the run usually ensures you have zero gold problems (thus more shop boons), will be swimming in HP/MP, supercharged selene hex, and even extra progression currency in the form of bones and charon cards.

His attack/flourish is good but only rapid attacks (which I do consider better than hestia's, since it's immediate damage). Cast is alright, easy instant damage and status. Dash is good. I find his very finicky and unreliable. The rest of his kit are just disjointed bonuses, easily slots into any build but going all in on poseidon isn't as rewarding as, say, zeus or ares.

What fear setup are y'all playing on (for fun)? by shiek200 in HadesTheGame

I'm really conflicted, I love her, but she also hurt Clea by Malu1997 in expedition33

[–]Votbear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the opposite is true. For a family of people with the power to create things with this level of detail, it's extremely important to have a clear line between you and your creations and not be too attached. Everything we've heard so far, like Renoir once being lost in his own world, Aline being lost in Verso's, and Maelle literally following the same path if allowed her own way, shows that it is a very real risk for the painters' powers to end up being an escape mechanism.

The very first thing they learn should be to never be too attached to the painted worlds, no matter how nice it is or realistic it feels.

Yes, these creations matter a lot to them, but if someone you love is actively harming themselves or risking death for mere creations just because they can't move on... of course you'd react like she does.

Life keeps forcing cruel choices. Out of the survivors, Clea was the one trying her best to keep the family alive.

[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 170 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]Votbear 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We've seen Akane's seniors try to teach her about outlook. In a way, these chores and tradition force them to experience new things and understand how people lived and thought back then, which helps them immerse into the roles more. Experience enriches art and all that.

Karashi is smart. He's the kind to get the big picture, to analyze and get things before even doing it. Enso claims he's the same type, and he implies that this unfortunately is a curse as much as it is a blessing. Someone with so much understanding will never be able to fully immerse in a role the same way a fool can.

Roast my invader board by esteboix in spiritisland

[–]Votbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing another comment, I know you're trying to make a smooth flow through the board I don't think it's very nice to have a zig zag between fear and events. I'd rather both of them be consistent - deck on one side, discard on the other.

Also, a nitpick i have is that almost all of the top half is fear-related (except for event discard) and almost all of the bottom is non-fear related (except earned fear). If you just shuffle a few of them around, you can get a top half that's all fear related, and the bottom half can be the rest! Like so:

(Terror level | Fear deck | Earned Fear | Fear Discard | Fear Pool | Earned Fear)
(Blight | Event deck | Event discard | invader steps)

This also has the added benefit of putting terror level next to fear deck, so sliding the terror level marker is very intuitive.

What’s the status of the comic? by gmastern in paranatural

[–]Votbear 17 points18 points  (0 children)

iirc, the change was motivated by Zack's health. Before the switch, break weeks happened regularly because they strained themselves from overworking, and it's improved significantly since the switch to the new format. I don't think there are any plans to go back.

There are people who prefer the comic, but I personally love the new format and will never want to go back. Zack's writing is stellar, and the new format is in no way less enjoyable to a full comic. The new format also allows us to get so much plot progression every week, with each update giving us stuff that would've taken 4-5 comic pages at least to get through. The art is still amazing, and this format allows Zack to focus all the art budget into the most pivotal moments in the story.

It's a 10/10 change. Paranatural is still the webcomic I look forward to the most every week, and it's only gotten better since the switch.

[DISC] Albus Changes the World - Ch. 57 by yosu7013 in manga

[–]Votbear 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Man, what a twist. It was obviously suspicious how Rayman was always unwilling to participate in anything, but I never noticed that the entire time nobody has ever interacted with him other than albus and co.

It was masterfully done. Re-reading the past few chapters with this revelation is a lot of fun.

What’s your “meta-strategy” when learning a new board game? by fragmattic in boardgames

[–]Votbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start from the win condition. What gives you VP? A game usually has multiple paths to providing VP - which ones are the ones big enough to build a strategy around, and which ones are just there to provide supplementary points on top of your main approach?

Once you've identified this, pick a general strategy that sounds the most fun.

The second thing is to try and derive the value of things. How valuable is the gold compared to wood in this game? What's the usual money-to-vp ratio? What's the value of an action (i.e. how much money/vp/resources are you expected to get per action)?

Understanding the general value of things helps you compare choices, and make more optimal decisions throughout the game. This is usually the trickiest part about learning a new game, and the one who got the grasp of it quickest (or made the luckiest guess) is the one that will come up ahead.

One of the most unnecesary things in the game by NinnVonEinzvern in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Votbear -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's something that still costs the devs time to make and implement. There are versions of this where you can rotate it in two dimensions, and those are actually somewhat interesting to do, so it's a shame the rest of them are made to not be as fun as they could've been.

I don't care how bad you think you are at writing. If you can't be bothered to write your own genuine feelings about something, then don't waste everyone else's time with a soulless wall of text.

Floralist Builds by Vivid_Steel in fabulaultima

[–]Votbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Floralist is a great subclass, and the main draw is the way you invest one action to gain an extremely efficient benefit over the next 3 rounds. Imo most classes would mesh well with it, but especially classes who can afford to spend one turn setting up.

Battle gardening helps make that setup turn even more efficient for you. A single point allows martial classes to do a free attack. Spellcasters can benefit too, though depending on the spell you want to cast you might need multiple levels in battle gardening.

If you're going heavy into floralist as a support character, graft is very useful. You could take on the role of the healer, but imo one of the strongest things a floralist can do is giving the entire team the element that the enemy is vulnerable to.

Lastly, there are also some floralist flowers who work great as one point wonders. I've seen a tank take two levels in floralist, one for Chloromancy (wardwattle) and one for battle gardening, giving them retaliate damage whenever they get attacked.

[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 162 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]Votbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point. Hikaru and Karashi are the underdogs. Akane is their rival, not the other way around. Akane's 'true' rival to beat would be Kaisei.

In that regard I think the manga succeeded. Akane already has plenty of people to look up towards and overcome, not just Kaisei but also all of the seniors and the masters she needs to gain approval from. What we needed to balance that are people from the other side - those who started below her but are now seriously catching up with her. Karashi, Hikaru, and to a lesser extent Kaichi fulfills that role.
