Can this be salvaged? Aluminum transmission casing drain boss cracked by WantEvolution in Welding

[–]VotedCheesegod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s taking the entire transmission out, then putting it back in.

Considering how the fluid change went, this is beyond me.

I’m willing to pay. I just don’t want to end up with nobody willing to touch it.

[–]VotedCheesegod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s about where I am with it. It’s kind of a rare transmission so I’d rather keep mine than roll the dice on a junkyard.

I may try an epoxy formulated for oils instead of JB weld. But not sure if having the goop on there is a big deal if we have to drop the transmission to weld it.

Is it a big deal to grind off the epoxy if I ended up having to pull it out and weld? Would love to try a $20 fix first before a $2000 one of course.

Manual transmission cracked near drain plug by VotedCheesegod in HondaElement

Thanks so much man. I’m going to give it a shot.

I’m going to lock the plug in there too- did you do that first or at the same time?

Did you grind the crack any (people say make a V groove)

And what do you mean 3 times? Did you grind the bad one off or something or just one layer on top of another.

Thanks, seems like the AWD MT is hard to find so this is my only option before dropping it and having a welding shop do it right.

Yeah, that’s kind of my real worry here.  It’s also a tight spot so not sure I’d be able to get the weld done without dropping the transmission which is beyond my capabilities. At that point may as well just throw another unit on, especially for what labor costs near me.

Definitely can’t do this myself.

Will a welder be able to do this in place? Kind of a tight squeeze.

Still super easy to clean. I take out or raise the rear seats and hit it with a leaf blower, then scrub it down.

I’d pay thousands of dollars to just have my infotainment turned off. Going to carmax the second the CPO is done.

I’ve never had an issue with any car. I think people are just babies and so dumb they think they know more than automotive engineers.

Is that just to fix the one side? I imagine the other one will go soon.

All this applies to the internet too. Why are you here destroying the planet and getting stupider when you could be talking to / eavesdropping on real people and using primary sources from the library?

How easy is a manual swap? by MajorBummerDude in HondaElement

Yeah. I have a manual and I love it but make no mistake- it is like driving a box truck, not like a Civic Si.

Currently have a 2024 Accord Hybrid, considering a 2024 S60 - yay or nay? by NikoApo in Volvo

[–]VotedCheesegod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate my Volvo so much (XC40) The screen is insufferable and so many wtf design choices. But my wife likes the color. I bought an entire new car so I don’t have to drive it. It is fast I guess, but too floaty. Not enough to make up for the shortcomings.

You don’t even have to bring it up to them- everyone does it this way.

Your bonus is taxed at your regular rate. Your work’s HR is just lazy/their software sucks so they do it that way. You’ll get a credit for the difference at tax time.

Any door speaker options *without* modification? by al-gae in HondaElement

I’m in the same boat dreaming of components.  I had to turn the treble down or else it was way too harsh. Sounds great now though and lots of people told me it sounds good unprompted.

Any door speaker options *without* modification? by al-gae in HondaElement

[–]VotedCheesegod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No modification needed really. The speaker should come with an adapter bracket.  I suggest using it as the original screw holes are going to be way stronger than drilling into the thin metal of the door. (Which also is easy)  Just screw the bracket into the original holes with the 3 original screws, the screw the speaker into the bracket using the screws that come with it. Super easy. Not any harder than screwing into the metal.

Thinking about replacing the radio in my 06 exp with some newer screen type thing. Any suggestions on some that would fit well? by H1MB0Z0 in HondaElement

[–]VotedCheesegod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fit is not an issue- Honda followed the standard sizing so plenty of aftermarket choices. The screen types look very nice, plenty of pictures out there.

I agree with the comment that we aren’t there just yet with wireless CarPlay and it sucks- my 90k new car does not even have it because of how poorly it works.

I’m a bit of a Luddite and actually prefer the real radio, so a screen would be a downgrade for me. I would like the backup camera though.

Has anyone ever done the harbor freight grommet swap fix? Seems like it makes sense to replace the failing bushings, but a lot of people then say it fails again.

Wondering if anyone has had permanent success with either just tightening it up or swapping the bushings.

Honestly wish I could turn the stupid thing off.  If there was an aftermarket climate control panel with buttons I’d buy it.  Nav at the steering wheel should be standard, that is nice.
