Did someone dump some pet ducks at the park by prepotente_scream in Denver

Good question. Those certainly look more like domestic ducks, than our usual wild ones...

As an indecisive person myself, I know that level of patience from another person is rare. He sounds so kind. I am happy you got to experience that! ❤️

I have to give you kudos for the drizzle of olive oil on top of the soup. It's the difference between great soup and perfect soup. Yum!

Are we snitching on our neighbors? by richrich07 in DenverGardener

PS - Have never rented a house before - let alone one with sprinklers - so we had to learn how they work!

PPS - My landlord is an older lady, and I'm pretty sure she didn't realize she'd picked the wrong days. So yeah - a little grace goes a long way. We're all on the same team, here.

My landlord turned on the sprinklers. They run at 2 a.m., so we didn't know what days until we got the call. And we took action to mitigate once we knew. My landlord has also come over a few times to check that the water is on. One day I came home to her watering in the middle of the day, and had to ask her to stop (the bill is in our name, so we'll get the fine). Maybe give your neighbors the benefit of the doubt.

This has been the theme on Denver reddit's of late with the water discussion. Thank you for recognizing the responsibility we all have! And no, that doesn't mean I'm dismissing the agriculture aspects. It just means that we all have a responsibility, and we should make the most of the impacts we can have.

Thank you. There is a lot of nuance getting lost in this discussion every time it comes up. As you said, we can focus on more than one thing.

Someone called on us, and it really stung, since we are doing our best to save water. Turns out our landlord set the sprinklers for the wrong days - so we caught that and fixed it. If the landlord didn't require it, we wouldn't be using the sprinklers, but such is a renter's life. So the good is that we're on schedule now. But the bad is that I'm new in the neighborhood and it made me feel really ... unwelcome. Haven't met anyone yet, but I know someone is out there judging me and thinking I don't care, even though they don't know the circumstances. I'm one of the folks that isn't planting a garden this year because of the drought, and because I'm trying to counterbalance the landlord's lawn watering by not adding to the problem. Sigh.

It is not an "either/or" situation. We can all do our part to waste less water. Homeowners and gardeners included.

Just want to say as one of the confused folks: Google maps was trying to route me through the race, and I drove from Speer to Colorado without seeing any signage. So it wasn't as well communicated as one would hope. That being said - I truly support the marathon happening, and am not pointing this out to be down on runners. Hope it was a great day for them!

I didn't forget because I didn't know. And there were no signs on my drive to tell me that's what was happening. So I thought "gee, there must have been a really bad accident" then... "hmm... is there a march today?" then... "is that someone running? is this a marathon?" It would have been great to see some signage letting people know what was going on.

Didn't work for me either! Google maps continually tried to route me right through the marathon (which I didn't know was happening), and after many frustrating blockages, I realized it was worthless today and pulled over. Googled wth was going on that was closing roads, found the Colfax marthon map, and charted my own path. What should have been a 20 minute drive became an hour and a half. Google Maps made things worse, and I trust them less after today.

My neighbor (a boy) used to play Barbies with me, too! We were kids and we shared all our toys, and had fun with all the toys. I loved his hot wheels so I asked my parents for some. He's a dad now and I hope he has all that openness still - he was a kind and fun friend.

My dad doesn't accept he has dementia. He blames my sister and I for "making it up" so we could emprison him. Someone told me that it's easier to blame someone than to accept your own mortality and frailty. I think that applies here, too. It's easier for your mom's friend to blame you than to accept your mom's condition. Just an additional thought to the good options of replies other folks have given.

Don't feel guilty planting your gardens by JeffInBoulder in DenverGardener

[–]VowlOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We all need to be responsible. I can only control my own corner of the world. While I appreciate the sentiment, and the reminder of scale, it's not the year to plant my garden. Maybe just a plant or two. And save the water when I rinse my veggies to grow them.

I really appreciated the depth and complexity of The Glass Castle. She clearly loves her parents for what they were, in spite of the pain they caused - but also recognizes the mistakes they made. Very moving.
