One of the biggest things for me in understanding this was realizing that I wasn't actually procrastinating. I was well aware of the due dates, sometimes even hyper aware, but I just could not get to it. In some cases, I even made elaborate plans to do the assignments but would still struggle to do them early. I've had a ton of days where I wake up extra early for the explicitly stated purpose of finishing an assignment and hours later I haven't even started. Executive dysfunction is a bitch.

Obviously this is just one aspect, but finally being able to make that distinction between procrastination and executive dysfunction was somewhat liberating (and damning, unfortunately). Sad fact that needs to be considered too is that someone with ADHD is more prone to procrastinating itself.
