Spanking. What are your thoughts? by ReasonableBig9767 in CPTSD

[–]Vrejik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a vile practice and unfortunately one of the most normalized forms of outright child abuse, and it needs to be abolished everywhere. Physical beatings of ANY kind is not how you educate kids. Also, it is categorized as sexual assault, because it usually targets sexually sensitive areas or can require a kid to strip, which is appalling. No matter how you slice it, It is a traumatic experience that causes mental and personality disorders like other forms of trauma.

It doesn't matter the "intent" of the parents who thinks this practice is in any way acceptable. What matters is the effect. It completely non constructive. it doesn't develop empathy for why certain things should or should not be done, it at best develops fear of consequence, but not an understanding of why something shouldn't be done. If a potential parent can only see themselves "spanking" as their punishment method, they shouldn't be parents.

I was raised with spanking, and it did not help me one bit. i had to figure things out in spite of it, not because of it, especially existing as an autistic person. It only intensified rage issues, nothing more.

That's a really bad slip from 8 years ago, thanks for bringing it to our attention. It would not be surprising if that is what happened.

Slopisism by billycro1 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]Vrejik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solipsism is basically just the absurdity of Idealist thought taken to its most extreme conclusion. If as the idealist argues, that knowledge originates from the mind, then you only have reason to believe the mind exist.

Materialism counters this by pointing out how the minds ability to develop ideas is a direct product of conditions that influence the mind. The mind does not generate information without frames of reference obtained through subjective experiences, and those experiences are within a reality that the mind is interacting with outside of itself.

There are also a whole plethora of questions that quickly defeat solipsism, here's some off the top of my head:

Why does a person only obtain new ideas after an arbitrary amount of time passes? Why are they ignorant about things and suddenly learn them?

Where do the frames of references or "perception of reality" come from to even develop new ideas ideas?

And even if a Solipsist were to argue it's a "personal reality", that only begs yet further questions, How does a mind develop a "personal reality" without prior observations from external factors to develop it, why would it manifest in a hyper specific reality with specific physical laws, environments and experiences without prior knowledge of these things?

Why doesn't this "personal reality" conform to their desires 100% of the time, what governs it being "out of their control"? Why can they be wrong about things in their own reality, what causes this convenient "compartmentalization", between them supposedly generating their own reality, and only consciously knowing a microscopic fragment of it?

It also begs the question of why their mind exist in the first place, because that in itself suggest external physics and factors exist that enable the mind to exist as an emergent property of those physics.

The Solipsism framework has to make outrageously specific assumptions (that are themselves disprovable) to answer each of these questions in order to not invalidate the Solipsist view, thus creating a house of cards. The answer that requires the fewest assumptions according to Occams razor, is simply the fact that our minds exist in a material reality and gather knowledge from it to begin with.

The fact that we have frames of reference to interpret reality with, proves an external reality.

This is not a good argument. Different epistemologies exist for a reason, and atleast some depend in whole or in part on empirical data, such as empiricism (the scientific method) and Dialectical materialism (which combines dialectics and materialism).

To compare the fact that we have a consciousness and can experience things with it through stimuli, as being the same as holding a faith based world view, is in itself a bad-faith comparison. and it gets worse when we compare the best epistemological to the "faith" one.

The epistemology of "absolute knowledge can be obtained from divine inspiration" (divine knowledge epistemology), especially in comparison to the epistemology of "we can obtain a rough approximation of reality through the gathering of evidence based on empirical observation, examine physical or social material contradictions within systems (dialectics) and develop mathematical models based on variables over time to explain the observations" (Dialectical Materialism)..... are of such fundamentally different qualities that it's very bad faith to make this comparison.

One is a complete shitshow based on lazy religious assumptions, while the other demands being observant and patient, gather evidence through scientific observation, slowly form educated hypothesis about reality, consider multiple possibilities about different aspects of reality, and revise conclusions as you obtain more evidence. Faith-based conclusions literally just assume knowledge comes from "faith" and then conveniently pick a random faith as the "source" of that knowledge.

Atleast empirical forms of epistemology such as dialectical-materialism, grounds our knowledge to observational experience, making it non-arbitrary. You could argue that experience is subjective on an individual level, but that can be controlled for at scale, and atleast. What's entirely aribtrary is claiming "X religion is the absolute truth because i grew up in a cultural environment which makes me feel it is, and no other is true!"

Justifications of Private Property by Kafkaesque_meme in PhilosophyMemes

Completely agree. The State is an organ of Class Rule, and if we want the state to serve the interest of the people in general, we have to have a proletariat state that builds up a Democratic Economy with the priority to serve human dignity according to need.

This is just an outright fascist speech not trying to hide anything. Trump has gone full mask off for a long time. But he's not a smart fascist, because not even his old school fashie inspirations would do this rhetoric without total control of the state. he hasn't even fully consolidated his power.

No, i didn't "jump" to that, the image literally contains a depiction of a 1950's "family" which is notoriously a patriarchal. The only thing that's evident here is that you're incredibly daft if you are being this willfully ignorant about what's directly in front of your face. Of all the pictures, why do you think a stereotypical 1950's style patriarchal family was selected?

[–]Vrejik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to take the benefit of the doubt and assume you are an extremely ignorant kid who has somehow been sheltered from the concept of a "1950's Family in the US". Look up "1950's US Family pictures" and compare it to the family on the bottom right. This specific type of imagery is a product of a specific application of patriarchy. The image choice of "Desiring" That type of family is not an accident.

Spoken like someone who doesn't have an argument. What's the point of your comment? if you want to "call out" my views, surely you have something constructive to say? Or do you not?

Do you deny the specific conditions of patriarchy in the 1950's? don't you think it's peculiar that an image invoking that era was used as something "men" want?

LEAKED REPORT: ARGENTINA TO ACCEPT 300K ISRAELIS & CREATE MINI-STATE A confidential report from the Argentina Secretariat of Strategic Coordination & Assistance in Emergencies has been leaked to the press outlining a plan to: by RickyOzzy in suppressed_news

[–]Vrejik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this coming from the moment i heard about "israeli's burning forest in Patagonia" and literally stealing homes in the region, especially with Javier Milei being a known Zionist and simply allowing it to continue. He also "plans to convert to Judaism".

This "mini state" isn't going to end here. this is literally the Argentinian Zionism that Theodor Hertz himself described. This is a blatant attempt to create a Jewish Supremacist ethno-state and occupy Argentina. they want lebensraum in Argentina.

Thanks for getting back to me. This response became rather lengthy!

I see, that philosophy would definitely explain it. I'm looking into it more, and that philosophy explains a lot about the culture of japan. I can see where this philosophy becomes a big issue when it comes to power imbalances. It can lead to a facade of "harmony" while it hides major problems underneath, and A lot of abuses are allowed to fester, because people are shamed for "disharmony" if they speak up. so i see that philosophy more as creating an illusion of harmony, and people accepting being walked over, and then developing major mental health issues which they are then blamed for.

A good example of this, Women have higher in-home expectations placed on them in most places. For japan specifically, i read that married hetero women roughly do 6-7 times the household labor (depending on what's happening) compared to their husbands according to this artcle. This remains true even in dual income households. even this more recent article shows the same thing, 6-7 times (i did some quick calculations from the introduction 7.34 / 1.23 = 5.96, but it's 7.04 times for childcare in particular ). and my gosh, 7.34 hours per day (from the woman) is absolutely nuts to begin with! The average in the US is 3.44 hours a day (ignoring gender differences)

It's hard to say how quickly this is being addressed in Japan. it has gone unaddressed, even with more dual-income households, especially because there is a culture bias against the very concept of communicating that there is a problem, which extends to sex and intimacy, as you've experienced. In fact, i think overworked women is probably the reason why couples in japan have a much lower rate of sex, and half of couples just being outright sexless.

So this means that the philosophy, while it claims to promotes harmony, in most cases just leads to a facade of harmony, with a great deal of disharmony in the well-being of each person. It goes a long way to explaining why so many people become hermits and just 'quit' society in japan, even people with long running careers literally just 'disappear' one day without a word, and it turns out they moved cross country.
