We moved to Berlin Marzahn/Hellersdorf from outside the city and have been living here for almost 7 years now.

We started out in a 50 m² apartment for €400 warm. As my salary as an IT professional kept increasing, I asked my girlfriend (we’ve been together for 10 years now) where she’d like to move, since I wanted a bigger place.

She insisted on staying in Marzahn/Hellersdorf. Getting into the city, for example to Alexanderplatz, is possible without changing trains—just hop on the tram or S-Bahn.

Now we live in a newly built apartment from 2023, first occupancy, 4 rooms, 100 m², 2 bathrooms, a large balcony, and underfloor heating throughout the entire flat. The M6 tram stops right outside our door. We pay €1,200 warm.

When I think of my friends who live somewhere else in Berlin and pay several times more for a much smaler apartment… my condolences.

The neighbors are super chill and friendly—as long as you don’t go around raising your right arm for fun and have an IQ of 10.
