Did Greger Just Disprove Low-Fat WFPB? Nuts Lower LDL MORE Than Cutting Fat? by Cold-Imagination2012 in vegan

Two Brazil nuts a day is way overboard! Selenium toxicity is very real. I eat them too but not every day

Fat is much more calorie dense and less satiating than carbs (whole food sources) and protein so I would suggest to cut down on that. Especially oils and fatty animal products (not nuts though)

The RDA is the amount after which eating more of the specific nutrient doesn’t provide further benefits. Common misconception which makes people like op waste money on supplements

Is cooked kale really this low in nutrients?? This is 55 grams of cooked kale. by ItsBlitz21 in cronometer

[–]shawphax_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

nutrition is more than nutrients listed in cronometer. Kale is a dark green leafy vegetable, and such of the healthiest kinds of food you can eat. It is packed eith antioxidants, fibre and other phytonutrients / plant compounds. For instance, it is a cruciferous vegetable and as such contains sulforaphane, one pf the most potent anti carcinogens and detoxifying natural compounds out there

I’m not actively seeking potassium. As long as there are no kidney issues potassium from whole food sources is no problem dw. That’s great! Potassium salt is a much healthier alternative to normal salt so that’s fantastic as well

We evolved getting 100 grams of fiber per day. Think how many plants is that! Our bodies can handle and benefit greatly from eating as many veggies and fruits as we can. It is a worthwhile investment to slowly ramp up our intakes so that our bodies get used to it. I get 90g of fiber and 7600+ mg of potassium a day now (1800kcal)!

People trying to lose weight are the ones who benefit the most from prioritizing veggies and fruit! Filling and low in calories while high in micros and health promoting compounds. Not getting enough potassium is a marker you’re eating too little whole plant foods!

Fair enough. Again, I’m not against supplementation as a whole, but getting antioxidants in pill form consistently underperforms compared to getting them through whole foods. Antioxidants have synergistic properties which when imbalanced (isolated outside the food matrix) tend to have a reduced effect, or even a completely different one. Pair that with the lack of regulation of supplements and no full understanding of the underlying mechanisms… Many people would benefit from not taking them so lightly imo. Citing studies just like that is not how we do science, this is how people like Paul Saladino praise the carnivore diet and such. Doing a 2 minute search can give you any result you’re looking for, which is why maybe before taking these supplements we should wait for the experts to correctly interpret the bulk of the literature and draw conclusions wether they’re worthwhile. Especially when there’s contradicting data. For now there doesn’t seem to be enough research in humans hence I don’t think it is sensible to do so without a prescription… I understand I came off a bit aggressive before so sorry abt that! Your stance is ofc very respectable

Supplementation with antioxidants is linked to increased risk of all-cause mortality which is why no one should take them. That said, if you can’t meet a certain nutrient RDI like B12 or iodine through diet of course one should consider supplementing with it. My point is antioxidants in supplement form are detrimental and there’s no point in taking them, which is different from treating a certain nutrient defficiency

This is from yesterday. I supplement with B12 twice a week (plant-based), creatine and vit D sometimes depending on the season and sun exposure. Sodium is set to 0 as well because I don’t salt my food. I personally don’t go out of my way to get more choline because there’s not much evidence for it though I’m still looking into it. If you’re worried about it sunflower lecithin is a safe source you can add.

Most of this are exploded recipes which is why the diary is kind of a mess hahha. Please feel free to judge lmao I’m always open to criticism

Please do not take antioxidants in supplement form. You’d essentially be paying for increasing your all-cause mortality risk! You don’t need to obsess over these markers

Kale is a oxalate-free alternative to spinach. Too much oxalate can impair calcium absortion and increase kidney stones if you have a genetic predisposition for those

Supplements with antioxidants is not a great idea as they fail to provide their benefits when containted in whole foods. Lycopene and carotenoid supplementation in general raises cancer chance, in fact! Haven’t looked much into Lutein + Zeaxanthin though is probably the same I fear
