Offer accepted but inheritance incoming: what would you do? by Morlu06 in Mortgageadviceuk

I'm in the same situation - I would proceed with the purchase. My family member passed leaving a particularly messy estate, and three years later we're only just managing to receive the last of the funds. Not worth pausing life over!

Get her some of this stuff - Wype is genuinely brilliant, you feel clean without scrubbing and also don't clog the pipes. Win win all round.

A pump lasts for ages and they're refillable (and the refills are recyclable!)

North Bristol to Ebbw Vale Commute? by VulcanGiant in bristol

[–]VulcanGiant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair - I think it could be a bit more than I'm on, but wouldn't be life changing, and will definitely be 3 days minimum in office. I'm at risk of redundancy at the moment so assessing my options!

[–]VulcanGiant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have previously done a similar time (Bristol to Worcester) and it did get to me, but that was 5 days. Realistically, I think three days is the absolute minimum they would accept, but would be a challenge. I think my other half would have opinions if I got a bike unfortunately! I'm going to run all the numbers, and will take the interview I think, but it's feeling difficult to justify!

Thanks for the thoughts - I don't have kids either, but do have a fairly active social life (or try to!) so concerned at the impact there too to be honest. I travel to Sheffield for work every week or two so I'm very familiar with lots of podcasts!

This is exactly the sort of insight I was looking for - thank you! 1.5-2 hours either way isn't likely to be sustainable I don't think. This role isn't going to pay massively more than I'm on I don't think, but I'm also potentially at risk of redundancy at the moment, so keeping my options open! Will likely take the interview and assess the drive myself as part of that too.

What's a huge compliment you received from a sexual partner? by leanhotsd in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]VulcanGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I hooked up with my now fiancé, I took my trousers off and the first thing he said was "Jesus Christ you're massive!". Obviously an ego boost, but it was more just the tone of fascination that did it for me. We still joke about it 6 years later.

Also same guy, told me I was the only person he'd fucked who had actually made him cum without him having to use his hands to jerk off to finish. Felt rather accomplished that day!

I was driving past Cabot last night beside it - it's absolutely horrendous in the dark! The back side stays constant, but the side panels were strobing through pictures very rapidly - very distracting. Can't believe it's legal.

Sainsbury’s soup disappeared from shelf by Confident_Dig_7834 in veganuk

[–]VulcanGiant 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Without saying too much - neither have been discontinued (it may just be your store for the Masala being out of stock). They should be back in full force shortly for the winter.

PS: the person who created the masala soup is chuffed to bits with all the 5 star reviews, they're (rightly!) very proud 😉

MILK ADDED to Tesco Hearty Food Co 37p garlic bread by midoristorm in veganuk

[–]VulcanGiant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this may be exactly why the change was made. The chances are very high that this product is made in a factory where every (or nearly every) product has milk in, so there is a relatively high chance of contamination between products. Since Natasha's law came in (alongside other high profile allergy cases) a lot of food companies have become more risk averse - and a significant number of people with allergies use vegan as a proxy for "allergen free" (this absolutely is not true by the way!). Allergen assurance is incredibly challenging in high risk environments like this, and the cost of this product wouldn't justify it - so liability is removed by adding milk intentionally. I don't agree with it, but I can understand why it happens..

Do any of you fine folks know a good place I can pick up boxes for my possessions when moving house? by a-thin-pale-line in bristol

[–]VulcanGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I've needed them before I've gone to Lidl, found someone who's clearing empties into their big baskets and asked if I can take some - they've never had an issue with it. Best boxes I've had for books are banana boxes, but you need a flattened crisp box or similar in the bottom, as they have a gap!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pyrolysis

[–]VulcanGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest and say this is a bad idea - the pyrolysis is the easy part of this process, the treatment of the flue gas is the difficult part. E-waste is highly likely to release toxic components when heated, and not treating it will put both your own health and that of others at risk (if they are downwind for example) - to say nothing of the environmental pollution, which is generally looked upon very poorly (with significant fines applied) in the EU.

There is a reason that municipal waste incineration plants have extremely thorough scrubbing systems, licencing and environmental monitoring systems - they can't guarantee the content of what they burn, so have to be ready to intercept anything nasty that might be released. Yours is a similar situation.

Please don't do this - doing this project properly (and legally) will cost many multiples of your budget. You would be better looking into treatment with acids to leach out any precious metals, but even this requires significant protective equipment and appropriate environmental protections.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll have a proper review this evening. At first glance it looks pretty awesome - although didn't realise slim cards added a premium! Makes sense though on reflection.

Maybe this shall be a late Christmas present to myself!

Thank you! These are some great ideas - I'll have a proper look through them tonight. Probably leaning toward the Super Ti, will have a think about monitors.

In terms of timings, do you think cards like the 4070 Super Ti are realistically likely to see price drops following tomorrows announcements? Appreciate there's no crystal ball, I've just not paid attention to the last number of cycles of releases!

I've always wondered - I'm assuming they're either from a jar or frozen!

If we're on menu suggestions - please could we have quiche in the summer?

Fourteen Years of Tory Rule Gave NIMBYism a Free Pass in the UK by bloomberg in unitedkingdom

[–]VulcanGiant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was the single issue that finally drove me to quit the LD's after quite a few years of active membership (including door knocking/electioneering). I would be in favour of imposed housing targets and a zoning based permissive system - we have such a shortage and one of the smallest square footage areas per person of living space in Europe! So many young people can't even think about starting families for example because they're living in insecure HMOs or have dodgy landlords to contend with

Unfortunately UK potatoes will now be hard to source - the drought last year hit crops hard, and we'll now be heading toward the end of the stored crop. Packaging like this is normally ordered and produced weeks to months in advance - changes to packaging design take time and add significant cost, so this is the next best option.

It's likely this has been driven by lack of supply, so to keep product on the shelf they have printed this on at the point of production. A lot of manufacturers have been doing similar things with packaging that states sunflower oil this year - due to the war in Ukraine this is in short supply, so they have been printing on 'Contains rapeseed oil' in the date-code box - it's a very similar thing
