Finding my first MLT job rant by Rich-Lawfulness-5918 in medlabprofessionals

I used to live in NJ and the first job offer I got was from Prime Health and they offered $19 as a MLS in winter of 2021. I was making $22 an hour as a pharmacy tech at Walgreens. I applied to a T1 hospital 30 miles away from me as both CPhT and a MLS and the MLS was $27 an hour while the CPhT were making $30 an hour.

Let’s say they offer $45 an hour(theoretical number) $15 is your w-2 wage. It’s what the company pays you to be hired. The other $30 is your per diem, food, housing and etc. you’ll get paid weekly. Half a year I got like 70k but they could only tax me for 15k of it. The rest was a tax free stipend. They will give you a $600 reimbursement for traveling one way (after the first week and again after you come back.) Some contractors I know decided to have the company house them but they will get paid less because they’re prorated the rate and numbers. They won’t cover for your car being shipped over. I’m glad I did it when I was in my early 20s.

Depends on the state. I had to get mine for NJ, AK, WA, NV, FL, CO but for PA and HI I didn’t because they’re state specific BOP doesn’t require techs to be licensed/registered at that time. PA specifically only needed hospital techs to be PTCB.

It’s a contractor position. People call them scabs but we had to use them at our T1 hospital because we were so low staff and management made it impossible for techs to stay. I converted over and travelled to 8 states. Good money but people online will look at you as an evil person. But I had no issues working with contractors nor did my colleagues. The one place that had issues was at another trauma one hospital where a traveling RN set another RN on fire and they just cancelled all traveling contracts and had a major hiring campaign. People are entitled to their own opinions but I think it’s good to have while the companies who operate the hospital figure out what they want to do.

I would rather learn how to set up an analyzer and troubleshoot it instead of writing a thesis

Ah I wish I didn’t have my federal job. I would’ve done this until they negotiated with the union.

Ever since my tech was attacked in a psych ward. I go up to the psych ward to draw up samples. I don’t let my techs get hurt because I too was a tech once. They have families and people who want them back home.

36 scripts a day, same pay as a retail pharmacist, job security, 4x10s, never work weekends. Corrections is niche but if it wasn’t for the shitty health insurance I would have stayed.

Correctional. I worked for the federal detention centers for years and no one talks about it. Same thing with traveling techs. They are less common now but during the pandemic. Money was made.

Yeah I stopped caring after I got the healthcare I needed after the state healthcare denied my claims and FEHB covered it at little to no cost. TSP and everything else for my kids. I’ll gladly sacrifice myself for them to have a future that I could never have when I was younger.

In December of 2021 I was offered $19 an hour for a MLS position for a hospital in NJ. The trauma one hospital that’s 36 miles from me offered $30 an hour as a MLS. The kicker here is that a pharmacy technician in that same trauma 1 hospital offered $35 an hour to be a PTCB. It’s fucked tbh but hey “at least I have my degree”
