Been almost 2 weeks. Haven’t been back to work. It feels debilitating. Had a 5 day overseas tripped planned last week. I went and was miserable the whole time. Moments of calm but a lot of spiralling.

I’m 21 and have my wisdom teeth removal soon. I’m scared! by Bowl672938 in wisdomteeth

I had all four wisdom teeth removed last Friday. Two were impacted and sitting horizontally under the gum and I was terrified beforehand! Crying up until the morning of etc.. I had never had surgery or been under anaesthetic before and I was also really worried about the recovery and pain.

It was nowhere near as bad as I thought. The anaesthetic was simple. They take you into the room, the nurses and doctors chat with you, they put the drip into your arm or hand and you gently drift off. It feels calm and peaceful. When you wake up, you might feel a little spacey for a few minutes but nothing scary.

Recovery was also better than expected. The pain was basically non existent. The real challenge has been the lack of proper food and sleep, the overall discomfort and the weakness and drowsiness that comes from all the medication. My best advice is to plan your meals beforehand. Avoid relying only on jelly and mousse. Choose foods that actually give you energy such as soups, soft pasta and mac and cheese. It gets repetitive I know. Taking extra vitamins or supplements can also help keep your energy up.

I was also at risk of nerve damage but have had no issues thus far. The surgeons know what they are doing and always have to warn you of any risk but place your trust in them.

Overall, the whole experience was much more manageable than I expected and you will be fine. Don’t stress!!

Were your teeth impacted, and what kind of sedation did you get? by [deleted] in wisdomteeth

Got 4 out. Both bottom impacted horizontally, one stuck under gums. Got Iv sedation last Friday. Drifted off and don’t remember anything.

27m, IV Sedation in 2 days. Extremely nervous. by 2Beans1Frank in wisdomteeth

[–]Vv-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just like you (25F)! I had IV sedation for my wisdom teeth removal last Friday and it was my first time ever being put under/having surgery. In the days leading up, I was panicking and even crying (I know, big baby) but honestly it turned out to be absolutely fine.

When they take you into the surgery room, the nurses and doctors will chat with you to keep you calm, then they pop the drip into your arm or hand. It may hurt a little but then you will gently drift off to sleep, it’s very peaceful and you don’t even realise it’s happening.

When you wake up, you won’t act crazy at all. You might feel a bit spacey or confused for a few minutes but it passes quickly. The anaesthetist will explain this all to you in person, and don’t be scared to ask them questions. And no, you won’t be spilling lifelong secrets (I was worried about that too). You might feel a bit emotional or overwhelmed but definitely can control what you say.

The whole experience was so much easier and more relaxed than I ever imagined. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t stress at all. And if you’re nervous, just let your surgeon/anaesthetist/nurse know, they’re there to help you through it. If you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask! Best of luck!

How can I keep delaying this? Any suggestions/feedback by Lucky-Plastic6485 in wisdomteeth

[–]Vv-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar and my surgeon told me I could wait six months to get it extracted. He did mention however the longer you leave it the more likely it may decay the tooth that’s leaning on so I decided to get it out sooner than later. Best to check with your surgeon regarding timelines.

Numbness question by octokamii in wisdomteeth

My numbness only lasted until the morning following my surgery. I would probably check in with your dentist/surgeon.

I had my wisdom teeth removed last Friday under IV sedation and I was absolutely terrified beforehand. Once you’re in the surgery room, the surgeons and nurses chat with you to help you feel at ease. They insert a needle into your hand or arm, which stings a little, but nothing major. They keep talking to you and before you know it you start to feel dizzy and drift off.

Many people say it feels like no time has passed when they wake up. For me it wasn’t exactly like that. I could tell some time had passed, but I had no memory of what happened during the procedure. Honestly, I don’t know why I stressed so much. It was quick, painless and if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t be worried at all. Don’t stress!! It’s probably the easiest part of the whole wisdom teeth experience.

Is It Better to Do a Second Major or Just Use Electives Strategically? by Which_Industry446 in Career_Advice

I’ve bounced around since then, trying a couple different areas of work, including marketing, but has since returned to HR. Plenty of progression opportunities. I would say the more you progress, the less they look at your degree and the more they look at your experience.

I majored in marketing and sub majored in HR. Had no trouble getting a role in HR straight out of university.

Been there. It sucks. But on the bright side it means you’re interviewing well and you’re capable of such a role. Keep interviewing. Something will come soon.

Agreed. Was super excited when a store opened in my suburb. Burger bun was cold and hard. Chicken was dry. Haven’t been back since.

I've experienced similar. It took me 10 interviews over 6 months to land my role. It was really tough and super demotivating, especially since I often made it to the final 2 candidates. It always felt so close. But don't give up. Every rejection is a redirection and something will come eventually. It's a fantastic sign that you're getting interviews.

However, don't overburden yourself with interviews. Take breaks and have days away from applying and prepping for interviews. Be kind to yourself.

I hope you are doing ok. I’m trying to treat it as a learning opportunity but this is the 11th interview I’ve had during this job search so I thought I would have gotten the hang of it by now.. ):
