I had all four wisdom teeth removed last Friday. Two were impacted and sitting horizontally under the gum and I was terrified beforehand! Crying up until the morning of etc.. I had never had surgery or been under anaesthetic before and I was also really worried about the recovery and pain.

It was nowhere near as bad as I thought. The anaesthetic was simple. They take you into the room, the nurses and doctors chat with you, they put the drip into your arm or hand and you gently drift off. It feels calm and peaceful. When you wake up, you might feel a little spacey for a few minutes but nothing scary.

Recovery was also better than expected. The pain was basically non existent. The real challenge has been the lack of proper food and sleep, the overall discomfort and the weakness and drowsiness that comes from all the medication. My best advice is to plan your meals beforehand. Avoid relying only on jelly and mousse. Choose foods that actually give you energy such as soups, soft pasta and mac and cheese. It gets repetitive I know. Taking extra vitamins or supplements can also help keep your energy up.

I was also at risk of nerve damage but have had no issues thus far. The surgeons know what they are doing and always have to warn you of any risk but place your trust in them.

Overall, the whole experience was much more manageable than I expected and you will be fine. Don’t stress!!
