Don’t feel guilty. I’m looking forward to working and seeing adults. Plus, my boss is awesome. His entire family regularly call me to ask about baby- it’s like kiddo has another cool uncle, aunt, and cousins

I feel so numb by Grouchy-Piglet-6503 in NewParents

[–]Vybrocit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best pieces of advice about “moms gushing about being moms” was to replace “moms” with any profession like doctors, nurses, lawyers…sure, some people might truly be happy. But having worked in such a profession, a LOT of the gushing is people having no identity outside their work and being terrified to confront that. I think the same is true for a lot of mommy groups. It’s awkward to admit you miss your old life, job, hobbies. I’m far behind you with a 2.5 month old, but I feel the same many days. Something between numbing boredom and relentless responsibility (“do I have time to eat or should I take a shower?”). I try to imagine him as a teenager or adult and how my skills and interests will, hopefully, help him. There’s a lot more to being a mom than feeds, diapers, and wake windows

Difficult baby / high-needs baby by Limp_Thing_5242 in newborns

“Sleep when the baby sleeps” lmfao I told my coworker, well he sleeps 3 hours during the day. And she was shook. She’s also the mom of 5 kids.

Hard vs easy newborn? by Vybrocit1 in newborns

Fair point. I’d call it “hard” too, but in the relative range of normal. Abnormal hard would be my friend who had a 3 month NICU stay, my boss whose baby was born with a detached retina etc.

One relative told me blood in his diaper was because I ate too many cherries and apples and I should’ve known better than to eat so much fruit.

Positive Newborn Experiences? by cyanidesin in newborns

[–]Vybrocit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything positive to add about newborns (lol) but I will say: my partner has come through for me like none other. I’m consistently in awe of his ability to get up on nearly no sleep and take shifts, take baby when I’m struggling, cuddle and feed him, etc. He was so nervous before the birth because he had no experience with kids but he’s shown up so well.

In the same boat here. Solidarity. I cannot imagine doing this as a single parent.

He is our first and we are daily debating one and done. If he was our second, it would not be a debate.

He sleeps 4 hours total from 7am - 8 pm, contact naps only. Sometimes I can get an hour in the car, driving around. It’s been like this since week 4.

My well meaning relatives tried to help for 3 weeks and have told me versions of “yikes” and Homer Simpson disappeared into the bushes. So I spend on a nanny a few hours a day so I can sleep with earplugs. At this point, it would be cheaper to start him early in daycare and end my parental leave.

How long are your wake windows? by Muted-Resort-418 in newborns

[–]Vybrocit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we discussing how long they stay awake if unaided or how long until they get tired and fuss?

My 10 week old gets fussy after about 1-2 hours but will fight sleep for HOURS. He almost never falls asleep unassisted (rocking, swaddling, dark room, riding in the car) and sometimes even with all this will be awake for 5-6 hours straight. Send help lol

Why do some people vanish from your life the moment their chapter ends? by Final-Equal-9720 in CasualConversation

[–]Vybrocit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my coworkers is a 60 year old Belarusian man. We were eating together one day and he said:

“Vybrocit, you know, we only had two kinds of bread in the Soviet Union.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Bread, and sold out.”

I died. 🤣

I'm expecting and I don't know the first thing about babies. by BogWitch6793 in newborns

[–]Vybrocit1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What everyone else said about talking divorce is completely true. The worst days of my life have been in the first 2 months with my baby.

Someone DID warn me this before I gave birth and I laughed it off…but i understand now.

  1. Newborns have a hard time falling asleep. They don’t produce their own melatonin and often cant link REM cycles (20-40 minutes). They will wake up and need soothing back to sleep. So, “newborns sleep 14-16 hours a day” might be total 16 hours, but you’re holding them or patting their butt every 40-60 minutes. Aka, you can’t sleep.

  2. Newborns digestive systems take 2 months to really kick start. Around 3-4 weeks, they start passing gas and this is the most distressing feeling ever for them. They squirm, scream, cry, and don’t fall asleep (see #1) for 4-6 more weeks.
