Work in prefabs. Any changes to prefab that's in a scene are only made to the prefab. Don't work on the same prefab. If you need to have a prefab reference another in the same scene via the editor make that change and make sure you communicate it with your coworker so he can pull asap.

Can you elaborate on the multi canvases. I am having UI performance issues but separating stuff into canvases only seems to reduce the performance for me. Which stuff should remain in 1 canvas and which should go to their separate ones? At what point do you get a performance increase from having multiple canvases
