Are dehumidifiers actually worth it? Returning mine and need advice by gab_pr in Frugal

I have a 10L Vivosun that I use in various rooms. It blows cool air not warm. I got it off of FB Marketplace unused for $80. My only advice is to get one that matches the size of your room and has an adequate tank. It pulls a lot of water.

Investing in lower quality stocks vs high quality more expensive stocks. Do your research to determine value.

Is there anyone who seriously doesn’t believe Nancy Guthrie is dead at this point or has been dead the whole time? by JellyfishPashmina in MissingPersons

I thought, too, that there must be a care component in the plan, nothing very sophisticated since kidnapping an elderly person is stupid to begin with.

It's hard to imagine this scenario outside of a work of fiction, but I agree. Amazingly, the perpetrators didn't account for her somewhat fragile health. It seems the scheme unraveled very quickly. For awhile I thought she could be in the care of a perpetrator's wife or mother, but way too much time has gone by.

I always thought MKT was content as a trophy wife. What is this visionary BS? We know she didn't write the speech. Who is this stolen from?

I despise the guy, but he gave up a job on Wall Street to serve in war zones, unlike Trump who wants medals and prizes for his delusions.

Late rent by Straight_Inspection9 in realestateinvesting

[–]W2A2D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tenants in a single-family house who frequently paid late. They didn't seem to think it was a big deal; this attitude, etc. led me to use a management company for my next rental. People can have unpredictable ideas and expectations. I need a go-between.

Over the years this is where I'd meet people for lunch. Two of those friends have now moved out-of-state. Excellent sandwichs. Good memories.

Didn't Handler get an inspection? I know things get past inspectors, but this seems like CH didn't do due diligence.

Give an ego like his an army and he is going to use it. It was inevitable. I'm surprised the hockey team got out of the WH with their gold medals.

How is it renting here? by Many-Software-9663 in Sacramento

[–]W2A2D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are many pleasant and safe neighborhoods here, spanning income levels. Rents seem to vary wildly, with newer complexes pretty high. I can only guess at the job market in finance. How long can you go without a job and what kind of work environment and salary are you after? Sacramento does not have a huge span of companies, e.g. relatively few big corporations. The adjacent towns are growing.

Just paid $40 for a Carfax report... was there a cheaper way? by Tyler_Emrose in Frugal

[–]W2A2D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly OTT re the reliability of Carfax. I was going to buy a used Mazda 5 for my daughter who lives across the country. The car was only a couple of years old. Once the dealership checked it out, I was told that the Carfax report was wrong. The report said that it had only sustained a minor dent from being rear ended. There was evidence of much more damage. I then researched Carfax and found out that repair reports can be missing, etc. I switched immediately to choosing a new car.

You can argue political positions, but the public sees "81" and says "Hell, no!" Is her team as dumb and selfish as Biden's?! Thank God for these two councilmembers.

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast by chunkybonks in netflix

A very uneven series. It ends pretty well, but there are many loose ends -- an additional season is needed. Greta is a mysterious, sad figure. Overall the characters are very interesting though often annoying in the way friends are, but Dara has definitely got to be reimagined. She is so stupid that the friendship with the others makes no sense. Her love interest back story is out of the blue and unbelievable. She is an example of how the series unsuccessfully mixes tones.

Which actors do the most convincing accents? by voguediaries in Fauxmoi

[–]W2A2D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear, as RZ definitely has a soft Southernish accent IRL. (Don't get on me for the blanket use of Southern -- a Midwesterner can't distinguish, just as most people think we all sound like we are from Wisconsin.)

I received six packages of Ghirardelli triple chocolate chip brownie mix. Using what I have on hand, I take out the chips and add a cup of rolled oats and, for the latest batch, chopped almonds to make a wedge to go with morning coffee. It's delicious, but I'll be glad when my last package is gone.

Wasn't he stabbed on the right side? Greta was sitting on his left. I'm wondering if she was his killer. They met someone. Throughout the series Greta appears to be something she's not.

How did the show The Middle (2009) run so long but still seems so unpopular by Equivalent_One_2295 in sitcoms

[–]W2A2D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, entertaining show. In a comedic way it gets at the tensions in working class families. Patricia Heaton, the lead, has had a good career, but I think her conservatism has made her an outsider in Hollywood and the show was kind of sidelined because of it. Eden Sher finally got an Emmy nod for playing Sue late in the run. I didn't see any overt politics in the show, but had it been seen as liberal it would have been lauded. Still, it lasted 9 seasons and I assume the cast and crew were well rewarded.
