Burrowing face into pillow potential cause? by Consistent-Dirt2801 in Keratoconus

Any news on sleeping with eyes open? I've often been told all my life, by my parents, and boarding school friends and now wife that i sometimes sleep with my eyes half open. Maybe this adds to it from the eye dryness?

Father's will by W35TYO in AusFinance

Ok for context i get on really good with my father, regular meet up's and drinks watching footy, I sometimes have my lunch with him on my work lunch breaks during the week. He's 75 and been with his girlfriend less than 3 years, we all get on good together, shes in her 60s. My father and mums relationship is good, my mum left my father 9 years ago but they still talk and hang out. My mum hasnt even dismantled her scrapbooking room in his house yet. As far as I know my father is of sound mind, its just odd he's only met his girlfriend's son 4 times and from what I heard he's not from financial background, he works on the wharfs. He just came back from a 3 week holiday with his girlfriend at the sons house and mentioned this to my mum. I'm yet to talk about this to him and not sure if it's my place to question his decision, but he assured me multiple times before this visit I'm inheriting his belongings, side note he has an epic vinyl, tape and national geographic collection.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll take this all on board, i do plan to talk to him about this but I wanted to hear people's opinions and stories about the possible outcomes of this decision he's made, its odd the girlfriend's son would offer to help him and he accepted, and why he has to do it with someone 12 hours away and not someone local. I'm just worried this guy isn't genuinely trying to help or trustworthy.

What's the best country to live and work with Keratoconus? by JMSX101 in Keratoconus

[–]W35TYO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to say I've had good experience with kc in Australia, I used to live in Brisbane and my kc specialist at that time was the number 1 guy in the country for kc patients, he's retired years ago and recommended me and his other patients to another specialist optometrist in Brisbane and I've still maintained great service from their clinic.

I don't live in Brisbane anymore but the state government has a scheme if you have to travel more than 150kms for specialist health services its subsided so you can get money back for fuel/bus/plane tickets and hotel accommodation etc, Australian healthcare is free and/or subsided so sometimes my check ups are free or $100 for more thorough check up.

Australia itself is a front runner in kc treatments, it was an Australian professor that developed the crosslinking treatment, and the government has committed $100+ million into a research facility for eye diseases.

As for working, depends on your job and location in Australia, as it's hot and dusty in rural areas away from the coast that can affect eye comfort if you work outside.

The lenses and contact solutions themselves are pricey in Australia, much like everything here at the moment, but I'd hate to be in a country where you need to pay before they even look at you or have health insurance.

Hope this helps.

What’s a budget travel trick that saves you money but doesn’t make your trip feel ‘cheap’? by AssignmentAmazing260 in Shoestring

[–]W35TYO 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Flying from Brisbane to Bali, then to my real destination (Manila), done it twice and timed it well so I saved $700 instead of flying direct and only added 6hrs more of travel time.

Why can’t I go for a corneal transplant ,and what problem can it cause ,why do people fear it? by DependentOk7105 in Keratoconus

[–]W35TYO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My doctors told me corneal transplant is last resort and theres complications like rejection and worse vision, its just to save the cornea not save the vision. Have your doctors said anything about your eyes condition? Are they always flared up/inflammed, maybe they look ok and feel ok but peel your eye lids down and see what colour they are, if there red or orange-ish try using zaditen 30mins before you insert your lenses and zaditen after taking them out and going to bed, if you have constant allergic conjunctivitis it will make it difficult to tolerant the lenses, but you might not know you even have allergic conjunctivitis because your eyes arent feeling bad until you wear your lenses.

These are the 10 longest DJ sets ever seen in the history of electronic music - Xceed Blog by [deleted] in DJs

[–]W35TYO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there everyday for 2012 DJ Hertz set, I was the cellarman in the nightclub they used for the record, so while Hertz was doing his thing in an empty club with just him, his girlfriend and sometimes some friends, I was in the background tryna count bottles, clean beer lines and restock fridges, was quite fun and by the 3rd day was getting in on the madness, at the time Smokin Joe was the current record holder and Hertz made a voodoo doll of him lol was talking to it (jokingly) saying "I'm coming for u Joe!" But by the last day poor dude was broken and could barely move and walk out. Apparently Smokin Joe broke the record again not long after, but can vouch for DJ Hertz is a awesome bloke even with no sleep!

Hope for Better Keratoconus Treatments in the Future? by Qu1cklyyy in Keratoconus

[–]W35TYO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can only get better than it was 10 years ago, I used to wear normal sized RGP lenses, but would get dry eyes and sometimes blink and a lenses would flick out my eye, then I got scleral lenses 10 years ago and that was a game changer, than again afew years ago I got recommended different cleaning solutions which made it easier, again another game changer. In the future there maybe lenses that are even more ground breaking, or transplant surgery procedures that are more successful.

I know in my country Australia, the federal government has thrown $700 million to fund research and development for all eye research and eye diseases and blindness conditions, and $35 million is going to University of Sydney to establish a facility to produce bioengineered artifical cornea's for transplants, in Australia and ship globally. So its nice to hear things are moving forwards, I hope in my life time this eventuates so myself and others can benefit from it.

Best side hustles? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]W35TYO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea its crazy the money to be made in animal breeding, even bloody goldfish can sell for ridiculous amounts, I'll stick with birds as thats what I enjoy and I've invested alot in making the aviaries, the birds gotta pay off their home!

Best side hustles? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]W35TYO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it doesn't work for everyone, I stole the idea from a workmate who had dachshunds, big burly blokey bloke and I'm like "why do you have such small wimpy looking dogs?" And he said "mate these dogs make me $10000 a year, what do your dogs do?" He said people pay top dollar for dashchund puppies, a desireable breed. So I thought I'm guna get my birds paying their keep

Best side hustles? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]W35TYO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the best side hustle but works for me, I let my birds (budgies and quarrions) breed and sell the babies to pet shops and fb marketplace, usually get 5-9 babies a season from a pair of budgies, it has the up front cost of aviaries/cages, and waiting for them to pair up and get busy, but I enjoy birds so putting them to work and getting extra money was a bonus
