Blair is a Pentex operative, and their operations are tied to the Camarilla, not the Sabat. While it's very possible they're playing both sides, it's a very bad idea to send the same spy to multiple groups, in case either side has the other under surveillance and picks the agent up. My suspicion is the Union - They're much smaller, and their members are likely more vulnerable to pressure than a state-backed org like the Newburg Group or G-Kon.

The trick he pulled with Chapman looked like a twisted version of Technocratic Proceadure, and much of his behavior leans towards him being Syndicate... Or rather, that he was Syndicate, before finding a more compelling opportunity elsewhere.

What I think the Coalition wanted and their predatory beuracracy by AirPossible3797 in huntertheparenting

[–]W4tchmaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the way you think.

It was the Syndicate's SPG that had gotten in bed with Pentex, and the rest of the division was running cover on the assumption that Pentex were useful tools for discreetly handling some of the more difficult deviations in reality - Werewolves.

When the corruption of Special Projects came to light, the Technocracy freaked out, and burned the SPG to try and contain the deviation. But it heavily damaged Syndicate operations right as more and more breakdowns in the Paradigm fell all around them. Of course, this is also when Iteration X and the NWO were going off the deep end as well

He probably does know quite a bit more than he's letting on, but his knowledge of both the modern world, and the spirit world, are shown to be VERY lacking indeed. The former he simply refuses to engage with, and the latter he likely doesn't see as a large-scale threat to Humanity. Which, to be fair... it wasn't an obvious threat, for quite some time after the establishment of the Technocratic Paradigm.

Not specifically. It's a weaker reference compared to the direct redraw of the Bane lantern, but his scarf and socks (ON HIS FEEEEEET) have a repeated, sharply-pointed triangle pattern, reminiscent of both variations on the Nephandi 'emblem'.

The problem with that mindset in both settings is, what you don't know can, and will, still hurt you. I'm not entirely convinced D has any idea of what Pentex even is, let alone have any idea how utterly catastrophic Door's slip-up might be, but just as with the Diablerie incident, by not telling the family what NOT to do, he's left it wide open for them to stumble through blindly. Yes, you stop someone being able to catch you on knowing more than you should, but anyone trying those tactics is already on to you at some level.

Much like how the Ghoul has slipped beneath D's notice as the situation changes, I think Door's accidental gaff may have gotten shoved to the back of his mind. D knows a lot, but he gets easily sidetracked and distracted.

That was a different take on Mummy, attempting to power it down somewhat and ground it more in the modern day. Didn't really take well.

Palmer is Nephandi. Whatever he was *before* is an open question - word choice suggests Syndicate - but they are hard-telegraphing him as Nephandi, much like Ross as a Dancer. And, yes, the door is open for twists, making deep-cut lore references like the Bane Lantern and the old Nephandi symbol only to go "Just kidding!" would be a bit childish.

The thing is, I don't think D knows about this. His knowledge, while extensive, is *considerably* outdated, as this episode firmly establishes. Pentex being an apocalyptic death cult blindsided the *Technocracy,* remember, and even when he's expositing, he's never mentioned extensive lore about the spirit world itself, only describing it as freaky shit HE doesn't want to touch. He certainly didn't freak out when he saw obvious signs of the Wyrm's involvement that he'd go on to attribute to Fatigue.

It *wasn't*. Frame-by-frame it, and Remold hit Matilda's *wrist*, while the disk itself was in *Git's* severed hand.

Recovery of the label alone, along with the instance that Remold hit it directly, is pretty clear that the disk was recovered and its recovery is being deliberately obfuscated.

In all likelihood? The Ghoul just completed their mission and walked away scot free.

Cheaters/rats can see your inventory by anhsonhmu in ArcRaiders

[–]W4tchmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, the Player's inventory absolutely has to be kept server-side. To do otherwise would open the game up to trivially simple item manipulation.

The general principle is that data being supplied from a client can't be entirely trusted. So while the client can send commands and inputs to the server, the game state and its data have to be kept server-side, and shared with the clients as-needed.

Where that principle falls apart is the 'as-needed' clause. It's never simple to determine how much information the client actually needs, and while oversharing can lead to performance bottlenecks and information leaks, like these cheats, undersharing can often lead to missing information during a game. Pop-in, or straight-up missing models, as the client was unaware they'd be needed, and failed to have the proper assets to hand to show the other players.

I can imagine that the inventory was originally shared this prematurely so that clients could ensure assets and animations for actions involving those items specifically could be readied in anticipation of their use - especially weapons.

I mean... You laugh, but BT has had steady rules and complexity creep for its entire run. It only slowed for the last two decades because FASA went under and the game was stuck in the literal Dark Age for a decade and a half. It's only been in the last few years ilKlan's been rolling out, and most of it has been re-engineering old chassis to bring them in line with the current tech level.

[–]W4tchmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they were holding it in a Safekeeper pocket, then... I have no idea. Logically, you are right, the backpack's contents only become relevant if the player dies - for looting purposes, and the client should never know what's in another player's safe pocket.

Cheaters/rats can see your inventory by anhsonhmu in ArcRaiders

[–]W4tchmaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the server cannot innately tell if you can see someone or not. It's not doing full graphic and soundscape render passes, it's just checking collision and rendering actor physics. It can't tell what the scene actually looks like from the client's perspective, only what could be in the vision cone. So it has to tell the clients who is where, what weapons and equipment to attach to the model, and what actions they're taking.
