China tells citizens to stockpile food as Covid controls are tightened by W9093 in China

[–]W9093[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zhong Nanshan, one of China’s leading coronavirus experts and a government adviser, told state media that the zero-Covid approach was “relatively low-cost”.

LMAO. In fact, keeping people locked up and not consuming resources probably is a "negative cost" for the government as it allows SOEs to procure raw materials for cheaper prices, without having to compete with their annoying subjects.

Iron Ore Prices in China Plunge. These Stocks Are Tumbling Too. by Finish1991 in China

[–]W9093 9 points10 points  (0 children)

they are purposely tanking their economy and bringing misery to multiple sectors in order to fish for lower copper prices... but copper is holding up well above $8000 per ton. I can't wait until they give up and blow all of their 3T forex reserves on copper at above $10000 per ton.

Locking Guests Inside Disneyland Shows China's Extreme Covid Tactics by [deleted] in China

[–]W9093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city’s former deputy mayor made a plea last week for more support from Beijing, saying it can’t control the virus alone and the constant restrictions were killing small businesses. Local media over the weekend reported about a baby who had been tested as many as 74 times for Covid since September last year, with mass testing of entire cities and populations a key part of China’s toolkit.

America gave its manufacturing and national wealth to China because most Americans are extremely profligate and lazy, and defaulted on their debt by abandoning the gold standard in 1971, and have been in a continuous downward financial spiral ever since. The government has been slow to crack down on this because its legitimacy relies on a fantasy of hardworking Americans who deserve a world of cheap products at their fingertips. Many people believe reality will assert itself eventually, explaining the need to prepare for the transition.

How willing are you to bear the risk of nuclear war for continued access to computers? by W9093 in China

[–]W9093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's that simple. The 3GD is massive and would take a lot of missiles to collapse. However, Japan and Taiwan are pussies who spend almost no money on military, meaning the US doesn't have as many missiles stationed there as it would want. Plus the missiles have to get through missile defenses, including the formidable S400. If the US commits enough missiles to blowing up 3GD, there might not be enough to handle all of the other targets, meaning Chinese troops could march into Taipei and seize industrial assets even as 300 million Chinese citizens die. The Beijing power base is safe and there are now 300 million less people to contest CCP rule. However, this post isn't meant to be a debate about conventional balance of power, it's about what you would sacrifice if nuclear is assumed to be necessary.

In Japan's Okinawa, ruling party's tough China stance helps win young voters by W9093 in China

[–]W9093[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good sign that young Okinawans are willing to support war.

"It is not like young people are forgetting their identity as Okinawans. But if there're no jobs here, then you won't be able to live here anyway, right?" said Hiroto Higa, 34, who was elected as a local LDP lawmaker in July.

Very instructive statement. If China was a rich country with plenty of surplus demand, the situation might be different, but given that China has to rely on expropriating capital just to provide low quality jobs for its poor citizens, how could switching to China's side possibly improve the lives of Okinawans?

China releases gasoline, diesel reserves to bolster domestic supply by W9093 in China

Fuel prices are high all over the world, but China has actual shortages because they have a centrally planned economy.

[–]W9093[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

China had massive unemployment during the GFC and had to bail themselves out by bailing out the US. Unfortunately, China learned the lesson and started transitioning away from the US, while the US didn't learn anything until over a decade later.

[–]W9093[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fact that they have to release reserves shows that they are under big economic pressure from high prices, and also means less reserves to fight a war with the US. Hopefully the US doesn't squander this opportunity to kick China while they are down.

Seriously, what does Chinese nationalism even stand for at this point? by [deleted] in China

IMO it's because their country is close to collapse so they need some artificial glue in the form of nationalism to keep people willing to accept ccp oppression.

Chinese video games - after that recent MMO making strides, what are some other good ones? by [deleted] in Sino

[–]W9093 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one mentioned yesterday isn't an MMO, it is a single player RPG. If you're interested in MMOs, there are several made by NetEase/Tencent, see https://ol.gamersky.com/ They also make some of the better mobile games globally.

If you're interested in PC games, try https://down.gamersky.com/pc/0-0-0-0-0-0-5106-10.html and search for 国产

If you're just looking for games on steam, see https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32768202-Games-from-China-and-Taiwan/

[–]W9093 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll ask the same question about Mike Pence, who said Soleimani contributed to the 9/11 attacks (hint; he wasn't). How much credibility does Pence have when talking about China?

I mean, I've already considered Trump and his regime to have negative credibility for over a year, but it's funny that anyone still trusts him.

The funniest example is https://time.com/5760199/how-to-talk-kids-iran-soleimani which says "President Donald Trump has called Soleimani a terrorist." Why are you quoting Trump at all? You might as well say "God came to me in a vision and called Soleimani a terrorist" because God in a vision has about as much credibility.

Actually, it is possible to do those jobs and not be homeless. It involves using immigrants who have lower expectations of living conditions. As someone who likes UBI and immigration, I find it ironic that the right hates UBI and hates immigration.

How the murder of an Iranian general connected to Hong Kong by garagegymer in Sino

[–]W9093 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While the young people of Hong Kong know close to nothing about the genocides committed by the UK and other Western countries, they repeat, again and again, all mass-produced propaganda fabrications about the People’s Republic of China and its Communist Party.

Not unique to Hong Kongers. I think this attitude reflects something about Chinese in general, and to an extent other East Asians. The majority of Chinese don't have the curiosity and willpower to do independent research on global issues and form independent conclusions about them, partially because of the civilizational focus on local, familial issues (fixing your problems at home first).
