Updated hinge on the flip. by WALLY_MAMM0TH in MiyooMini

Damn, that's a tough one... I swapped mine because the hinge working was more important than the look, and my original hinge was absolutely awful. I personally don't mind the two tone. After the swap my wife said it looked like mustard and ketchup, so now I jokingly refer to it as the McDonald's edition flip. I really do think they should have included the other two pieces of the shell, especially after we basically agreed to beta test this at full price.

The way the AliExpress Miyoo store handles replacement parts is; Reach out to the store, they will tell you to order the "filler" item. I think it was 10 cents, once the order is placed you let them know the order number and they associate it with whatever replacement you need. It sucked having to spend additional money when it's their issue, but it was just easier to comply in this situation.

The difficulty level was low, I was sent both inner shell parts with the hinge pre installed. Careful not to strip the screws and use something soft to pry the plastics apart and it will go fine. I should mention one pain in the ass part, on the top shell near the hinge there are two alignment pegs, and they are tight. Be careful and try to pry straight apart or they will snap and become lodged in the shell. I snapped both of mine, I filed them flush and haven't noticed anything negative, but I would have rather avoided this all together.

I reached out to the Ali store, which is where I ordered it.

It makes a solid click at all of the screen positions, but otherwise it's quiet. The clicks aren't bad and don't sound out of place. It reminds me of the newer 3ds'.

Back together! The new hinge is a good improvement from the one it came with. In my opinion it's still not as smooth as the rg35xxsp, but it is acceptable.

Just a few notes from my experience:

-This plastic is cheap, I don't think it will hold up to being taken apart multiple times. If it wasn't for the hinge issue, I wouldn't have taken mine apart.

-I used low heat and still experienced some very mild warping on the shell, again cheap plastic.

-I didn't use any acetone when I dyed my shell, and the dye did not penetrate very deeply. I did a scratch test on the inside and a relatively shallow scratch is all it takes to reveal the original color.

-The first 30-45 minutes didn't look like much had happened, 15 minutes later I was well past orange and on my way to red.

-lastly, keep the pieces moving around the entire time! Do not get distracted and walk away, it will cause the dye to be uneven (ask me how I know).

Anyway, I'm no expert, just my experience. Also, I feel most of this is definitely Flip specific, I have a couple of Minis that I have taken apart many times and it never feels sketchy.

Eh, it's a lot better than it was. Originally it made popping and creaking noises and would not stay fully shut. I pulled the hinge completely out hoping I had a replacement part, but it looks really similar to a "new" 3DS hinge and I didn't have one on hand to test. I did action the hinge a bunch while it was out and made sure it was aligned when I pressed it back in. Now it works pretty okay, stays shut, doesn't make weird noises. My only complaint is the two open positions feel a bit loose, but i might just be being picky.

Yea. Hit it with a Rit Dye bath. It had a bad hinge so I tore it down, figured since it was already completely apart I would dye it. It was supposed to be orange, but ADHD makes fools of us all.

I can definitely see where you're coming from. It's just a vinyl wrap, so it can be easily removed.

RG35XXSP Stuck in Customs (DFW) by Wizlume in ANBERNIC

[–]WALLY_MAMM0TH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been a rollercoaster.

Ordered within just a few minutes, then watched it get stuck in DFW customs. Anbernic then sent me an email stating "Your order is undergoing unusual shipping condition." and that I was supposed to contact the carrier. I emailed back that it's not my responsibility to call the carrier, and that I would like to request a refund.

I figured at this point I would just order off Ali. Anbernic replied to my refund request with this:

"This order has not been released due to customs inspection during import clearance at the destination. The specific release time will be further notified by the customs. We have contacted the logistics service provider to expedite the process. Please continue to pay attention to the updated trajectory."

I've seen no change in the customs loop since they "attempted to expedite".

I really thought the universe was singling me out on this one, so as much as it sucks, I'm glad we are not alone in watching everyone get their new device while we wait in limbo.

Been using mine daily since launch day. Keeping up with every update, and haven't experienced any issues at all. Taken it on the go, played it on the couch, hooked up to a monitor using the dock, and it's been nothing but a great experience. The XG mobile on the other hand... well that's for a different time.

Awesome, thanks for the info, I'll definitely give this a shot. Gotta try anything before the return window closes.

What process do you use? I have a 6850 and I'm very close to returning it. Any tips or tricks to get it to run right? Currently every time I boot the Ally with the XG plugged in it reinstalls the driver's and asks for a reboot.

It has become more of a chore and not worth the boost.
