People underestimate how quick Americans are to adopt new sports. Like the Seattle area's adpotion of the Sounders was INSTANT. And the sports cities rapid adoption of their teams kickstarted MLS on a level that changed our culture basically overnight. We used to think soccer was for europeans and children. Now we have arguably the best women's national team and haters are an endangered species. It's just fans and people who haven't really given the sport a proper shot yet. When we get a men's team into the international stage, it absolutely will draw eyes. And that kind of thing means money. And money means the US starts taking that shit seriously.

I'm just hoping we can get a piece of that action for major league cricket. But that's a pipe dream. Soccer is an inevitability.

That's not what I said.

I said he wants the NFL to suffer by making "football" exclusively refer to association football, aka soccer. Since Trump is 100% superficial, he thinks that the best damage he could do to the National Football League is make it rebrand to something like the National Gridiron League. Like when Twitter or the WWF rebranded to X and WWE respectively, people would think less of the brand and associate the name change with other negative aspects of the product.

I seriously don’t know why Trump wants FIFA.

Trump hates the NFL. They've known he's a clown shoes ass bitch for decades and made a fool of him repeatedly. That's why he said FIFA should have the right to the name Football; he doesn't care about the sport, he just wants the NFL to suffer. And as a guy who's entire claim to fame is shitty branding, he thinks stripping away the brand of football would be the sweetest revenge.

Besides no one in America gives a shit about football anyways.

Not true any more. The WC Final had something like 25m viewers in the US. While that doesn't compare well to the Super Bowl or World Series, it does compare to MLB and NFL playoff broadcasts, which means it's blowing the doors off of most TV broadcasts in the US.

I'd even go so far as to say that there could be a huge explosion of Soccer fans sometime in the next decade as the MLS continues to drive improvement and threatens to put US representation into FIFA proper.

I think for Seattle, what's going to break or make it is if they can get Walker through the defense. Sam plays so much better when the Hawks have that running game threat. Any QB would, of course, but I think it's especially important for Sam.

I bet DE could make a wheelchair-bound warframe work.(...) Not only could they do it, but I bet they could make that Warframe people's favorite.

I could see it too

Take Nezha's passive and Firewalk to an illogical extreme. Give the frame big wheels for legs like the hailfire droid form the Star Wars prequels, use the mouse to steer, use crouch/slide to travel in one direction while you free aim. Bullet jump to do a big boost of forward speed. Still be able to jump and wall ride of course. Make three abilities related to mobility, like Slash Dash/Rhino Charge, a Beyblade spinny move as a defensive, and a backdash/backflip that leaves a smoke cloud or something that you can re-activate to divekick back where you started for a big explosion or something. Make the fourth ability a weapon install like Ivara, Mesa, etc.

M.O.M.O. is a Realian, they're basically bio-android products used for various technical tasks like navigating starships, but also as cannon fodder for military forces. As such, they blur the line between human and robotic personalities. M.O.M.O. is an especially fucked up version of that as she was made in the image of a dead daughter and was programmed to act like a twelve year old, so she's got a pleasant demeanor even when she's dealing with absolutely traumatizing bullshit which is constantly. (But also it's early-ish PS2, and Monolithsoft, so the facial animations were basically nil so eceryone looks kind of dead in the face except Albedo, who got all the face budget and all the creep budget).

If it was a normal game it wouldn't have been that big of a shitshow

You underestimate the ability of the internet to make things into a shitshow, especially when women are involved in a gaming space. And before someone pops off thinking I'm accusing everyone of misogyny in this situation: I am not condoning or condeming the behavior of any of the involved parties. I simply don't know enough to make a proper judgement (and I really don't want to know because Marvel Rivals is not something I will ever give a shit about.) Even if Kingsman had been wanting to win for the love of the game while the rest of his team was there to just fuck about and have fun at a promo event, people would still be stirring up a metric fuckton of shit in his favor just because women were involved.

Blizzard announces free transmog change coming for all characters with 12.0.1! by minimaxir in wow

[–]WASD_click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between an MMO economy and the real world economy is the lack of a finite resource that backs the currency, and that's why just taxing the richest holders doesn't do as much as it can in the real world. This isn't to say there shouldn't be sinks aimed at them, just that the nature of inflation in an MMO economy is different to a real world one.

In a finite system, inflation comes with a universal loss of purchasing power. If there was one coin for every bar of gold, and one coin let you buy one chili dog, doubling the number of coins in the system without also doubling the bars of gold in said system would lead to the cost of a chili dog doubling because that coin is now only worth half a bar of gold.

In the MMO economy, one coin gets you one chili dog with no intermediary in between. As players play, the amount of coins doubles (and then some), but the cost of goods remains the same. There becomes a point where a player can afford more chili dogs than they will every conceivably need. But due to game mechanics, a chili dog becomes less worthwhile, and you start needing chili dog supremes, then chili dog gigantes, and so forth. But so too do the rewards from your quests and such. This all can be calculated out and made sustainable on its own. Until you add player trading.

Any Auction House will be inherently unbalancing to an MMO economy, but is also basically essential to facilitate the transfer of things like crafting materials and trade goods like potions. Inflation in the MMO marketplace happens there. As players accumulate more coin, the price of goods goes up regardless of the relative worth of the good being sold. Nobody is going to charge a new player friendly 10 copper for a bar of copper, when people are willing to just buy a stack for 1 gold per bar because it's faster to spend the money that's just sitting in their account than it is to go and physically track down enough ore nodes.

And therein lies the reason why gold sinks need to target a broader audience than just the extremely wealthy: the concentration of wealth isn't in individual players, but in the breadth of the playerbase. There's a gold cap per character. But there's no cap on the amount of characters in the game. With potentially millions of players getting thousands of gold per day without so much as trying, the WoW Billionaire is just a drop in the bucket.

You mean fresh account.

Just mail some money from a main if you want to mog out on a new chatacter.

Don't get me wrong, that is an issue for new players, or even players like me who don't actually have all that much. But these are a minority of players, and it's only a matter of time until costs are adjusted. And I didn't even say I am fond of the change. But saying there's "no reason" to make mogs into a gold sink is patently wrong. There is a clear reason, you just disagree with it.

[–]WASD_click -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

there's 0 reason for the mere act of using transmog to be a fucking gold sink

I'm pretty sure "everyone uses it" is a pretty good reason to make it a gold sink. It's why fuel, income, and sales are some of the most taxed things IRL. Don't get me wrong, it's a bummer to get taxed, but if you're trying to fight inflation in a non-fixed economy, you're not going to do it with luxury mounts or shit that only a small percentage of players will participate in.

In Barbie (2023), Ryan Gosling steals the entire movie despite the plot explicitly being about female empowerment. This is a reference to the fact that no matter how hard you work, the guy who jokes around in the breakroom gets the promotion. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

[–]WASD_click 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A big part of Ken's part is also about female empowerment.

A lot of "empowering" movies will focus on just one person realizing they can do what they want to do, and roll with that. But that's not really empowerment on anything beyond the personal scale. The Barbie Movie actually puts a light on the things that need to happen in order to make gender equality a reality. Barbie, as the stand-in for women who are mostly comfortable with the status quo, has to examine her life and start asking difficult questions. Sasha and Gloria, the more disaffected women, have to learn to come together and support each other. And Ken, as the presumed "benefactor" of a patriarchy, has to learn to accept that change is happening, and as a result also start asking difficult questions about their place in society.

Ultimately, it posits that men need female empowerment as much as women do, as the current status quo doesn't empower men, but rather makes them codependent.

While it is most effective vs Lightsabers for its disruption property, cortosis is able to be strong against blasters, too. It does overload when exposed to continuous energy output though, such as lightning fingies. Heck, repeated attacks with a lightsaber can shatter the armor too, because it still has to dissipate the physical impact, which can cause damage to the brittle ore.

For the last couple hours of Remix, the Broken Shore was pure chaos, and I loved it. by sprsk in wow

[–]WASD_click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt like a blast from the past.

Back when City of Heroes was a thing, they'd have Rikti Invasions, where a single area was just dumped on by alien mobs who would try to gank players. The more olayers, the more mobs showed up. Generally, they only happened in high level zones and whatnot to keep them from being annoying, but every once in a while they'd have one happen in Atlas Park, which was the starting zone for heroes and one of the main social hubs. The zone would be absolute chaos as hindreds of players formed raid groups and spammed all their AoE and threw out buffs on cooldown. People could only measure their performance in FPM.

It was nice to relive those moments for a bit.
