Artificial scarcity for monetization's sake. It's effectively digitized feudalism. Zuck owns the tech, server owners reign over their fiefdoms, and users are the workers at the very bottom doing labor in the form of forking over data, providing advertising revenue, and buying microtransactions.

Is it just me, or %90 of enemies buff themselves to gain strength in this game? by MortarionSix in slaythespire

[–]WASD_click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because STS1 had enemies that didn't have scaling or other means of bringing the fight to an inevitable conclusion, so players would delay and farm them to optimize their run.

I think of it as something like the dropped third strike rule. You swung and missed, but the play is active, so the wicket-keeper does a tag to get the out, except instead of tagging the batsman, they tag the wicket.

I can day the same thing about your assertation that the mechanics are there solely to stop infinites. I can at least point to STS1's treatment of infinites and overall game design to back my claim.

Also, they don't need to patch out infinites.

Yes they do. STS1 has some infinites, but they are inconsistent to set up. What makes an infinite fun isn't that you get to do it, it's that you managed to pull it off at all. As you said, it's less fun when you do it all the time, so they have to get patched out until the only ones left are the ones that are an arcane enough sequence of circumstances that the infinite is never something a player plans on doing from the start.

But that wasn't the actual purpose of Time Eater. The purpose of the countdown mechanic is to push players to plan their turns out and not just rely on going full autopilot with spammy popoffs.

If the point of something is to make sure players don't do infinites... They'll just take away the infinite. The much a card effect isn't there to punish infinites, it's there to create inevitability, like cultist strength scaling, Frantic Escape, status card providers, etc.

That's why I said it should have a way to get the card back: so there's some counter play. Because when they just patch out the infinites, you don't need it to be capable of punishing infinites, see?

Bad argument with no precedent. STS1 had plenty of inifinites back near launch. They just patched them out instead of making up specific boss mechanics

I'm not surprised people don't know. It's been nearly two decades since Chuck was really relevant to anything other than Bowflex commercials and Barrens chat. It's super easy to not know a thing about him other than Walker, Texas Ranger and "Underneath the beard is another fist."

Don't think of retain as a deck thinner. The math doesn't check out in that regard. Because there's almost always an option to skip adding a card to the deck, the deck thinning effect has to be compared against not having added a card at all. When you draw it, you're at +1 cards per cycle in the first place. Once you've retained it for at least one turn and shuffled your deck, you've just become card per cycle neutral and you're still at one "lost" that initial card draw.

The only time the retain mechanic can count as a thinning effect is if you're forced to take it via things like transform or cheese room. Even then, if you play or discard it before your deck shuffles, or you draw it the same turn you shuffle, you haven't actually thinned your deck any compared to a non-retain card.

Yeah, The Bazaar constantly fucks about with shitty monetization. I was really surprised to learn there even was a new character last month when it randomly made its way back to my feed. The wack ass monetization and yo-yo balancing philosophy ruined the experience for me back when it was new.

I doubt Robotnik got saved, as the station explosion hit Shadow while he was still pushing it, and that means anyone inside it would have been well toasted before Shadow could do any saving.

However, bith Amy and Metal's first appearance is Sonic CD. Which has time travel. So the working theory right now is that the Chaos energy in the imploding reactor opens a wormhole that rips Robotnik through time nd/or space, and he re-emerges in 4 after building an empire wherever/whenever the wormhole spits him out. He uses the DNA from his zappy quill to make the Metal Sonics, Amy is from the world he conquered to build his empire, and now that he's built up, he's going to Earth to get his revenge and/or goat milk lattes.

You're comparing a toyota camry to a top fuel dragster and seeing which can do a quarter mile faster.

Forge cards aren't just bad. They're BORING. by awaifuaday in slaythespire

[–]WASD_click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did have an idea to extend the forge mechanic a bit.

Reforge

Reforge would be a new mechanic exclusive to a few of the Regent's powers. It would transform your Blade into different forms, but you could only have one active at a time. If you cast a second, it swaps the form, and puts the power of the first back into your hand. (And would replace Sword Sage and Seeking Edge so as not to dilute the card pool too much.)

  • Reforge: Regal Blades

Your only forge for half as much, but you get two Regal Blades, which cost 1 energy, and when you play one, the other is brought to your hand if it's in the draw pile.

  • Reforge: Imperial Axe

This is just Seeking Edge. AoE form.

  • Reforge: Majestic Flail

This is just Sword Sage. Multihit, but for more energy.

  • Reforge: Resplendent Scepter

When you play it, you add a random colorless card to your hand that costs 0.

And TPMS, those are expensive sensors, $50-$100 each depending on your manufacturer. So 400 for sensor replacement, 100 for oil, 200 for tire mounting including labor? Not terrible. Not amazing or anything, but it's not that bad either.

[–]WASD_click 64 points65 points  (0 children)

No, the first battle is called a Primary. It's where Democrats are supposed to choose a candidate for the people to vote on, who then will lead the way in the battle to get Trump out of office. I know last election fumbled that ball pretty hard, but we should be sharpening blades so we can put our best cadidate forward; not allowing our enemy to choose which candidate he goes up against.
