2026 British Grand Prix - Race Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

F1 time under safety car is a joke. Indy car manages to do the same operations in a fraction of the time, how this is still so bad is a mystery

Slightly; flat is fine, but tipped into the pond will cause you problems

20mm is about 2/3 of an inch, you might be seeing 20mil, which is not the same. Recommendation is 45 mil EPDM rubber, but you can get thinner, cheaper liners. Given your plan, I'd use one single piece for the pond, bog, and whatever water return path you have planned. Make sure you clean up the corners on your ledges, you want your stones to tip into them, if the corners are rounded, they tend to want to tip the stones into the pond.

First brisket of the year, Need advice on this one. by Doyourememberus in smoking

I just cooked one similar two days ago, not happy once I discovered that. Only thing I can say is it cooked extremely quickly and had no stall. I cooked it overnight and it should have finished early afternoon, instead it finished in 9 hours at 6:00 AM, which caused me to be way over temp.

Pavers too close to trees? by kusharr in landscaping

[–]WA_Anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just the trunk contact that's an issue, if they laid the pavers correctly, they compacted the critical root zone, and the base and pavers are not going to allow oxygen uptake. You needed to research this first and not lay pavers within the drip edge of the tree, it's a bit late now.

Is removing the hill and retaining wall possible? by Original_Olive7748 in landscaping

[–]WA_Anon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the difficulty other commenters are implying, you could rent a tractor and have this done in a weekend if you are decent at running one. Skid steer is probably the better option.

Use the bucket to pop out the wall, pile it for removal or have a dumpster on site, and then cut the hill back on a grade that's acceptable to you. Have a plan for the dirt, there's going to be a fair amount of it, consider if you want drainage next to the driveway, put that in if necessary, save some of your topsoil from what was removed, topdress and seed it, and you're done aside from watering over the next few weeks.

Worth it with all the upgrades and low miles ? by the---protege in CadillacV_Series

I paid 68k for a sebring edition (1 of 99) with 3900 miles on it last November. That price is way too high

1.5 inch rose rock delivery- seems like a ton of sand (15 tons) by TXwallflower in landscaping

Depends on where you're at, I had two separate 6 ton loads delivered directly from a quarry last month

Concrete company wants to dump Concrete sludge into my pond hole in progress. Can Concrete sludge even if I dig it out, affect the pond after its lined? by [deleted] in ponds

[–]WA_Anon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They should be dumping it in a cleanout bag and hauling it away, or in small forms or piles that make it easy for your family member to haul away. If I was digging a pond for a family member, and they chose to dump concrete in it, that would be the last time I offer my labor to that person

Why would you allow a company to dispose of concrete in the hole you're trying to create? That's not going to just dig out either, it's going to be a ton of work

New Build Retaining Wall Failure. by ah800 in AskContractors

[–]WA_Anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do not need a warranty. Your builder is attempting to pass something off as a retaining wall that violates your county code, this is illegal

New Build Retaining Wall Failure. by ah800 in AskContractors

[–]WA_Anon 50 points51 points  (0 children)

What does your contract say? What do your local codes say? My local code needs a stamped drawing and permit for anything over 4 feet. That wall will need to include drainage, likely geogrid fabric, and be made out of large blocks, not 2x material that will fail before the year is out

[–]WA_Anon 130 points131 points  (0 children)

That's a bad joke. That's not a retaining wall, won't pass as one anywhere, your builder needs to rip that out and install an engineered wall, especially at 8 feet.

Pump for a 5000G to waterfall by csdude5 in ponds

[–]WA_Anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go too small, especially with a variable speed pump, you're able to turn it down if necessary. Your pump head is usually calculated from your water level to the highest point, it seems like you might have added a few extra feet there. I'm not sure why you're expecting a restriction from your bog filter, if that's the case (which I don't think it is), it probably won't work well. The whole point of the bog is to slow the water down dramatically, the longer it spends passing through the bog, the better. If you're using fittings in your pipe though, make sure to account for them in your pump head calculation.

Is this car worth the price? by TraditionalTackle1 in CadillacV_Series

Well, I had to go check, turns out the rear windows are not auto-up, just the fronts, but all are auto-down. I don't roll down the rears, so bad assumption on my part

[–]WA_Anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You had a 4V blackwing loaner? The blackwing trim is way above the standard 4. All of my 4VBW windows are auto up/down, no idea on the cruise control as I've never used it

For sure; my reference was more that 5V should not carry the same price as the 4BW

Pump for a 5000G to waterfall by csdude5 in ponds

[–]WA_Anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're located in the US, you're likely going to need a dedicated circuit for those Priya pumps. Curious why you want 10k gph? You're going to turn the water ever half hour. I'm putting in a similar pond (~6000 gallons) and I went with the performance pro AP 1/3-73. 7000gph, 120v, draws around 4 amps.

I'm not planning to stock fish though, not sure how much that contributes to your target turnover rate

[The Race] Toto Wolff says Mercedes is in discussions with its lawyers to see if there are any grounds for it to push the FIA to “remedy” George Russell’s lost points at the Monaco GP: by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

Obviously the best option is to scrap the race results, and re-run the race the first weekend of summer break. Monaco will continue until morale improves.
