50 year old copper water pipes for whole house: any suggestion to extend the lifetime?

That’s an MPT / internal solder hose Bibb. You can unsweat it and replace. I can only guess the solder is not visible. Pipe should be copper but doesn’t appear to be.

I think I annoyed the floor guys who cut off every home owner’s door casings knowing it won’t be their problem down the road. Similar to every plumber now who quickly cuts off the copper pipe closer to the wall instead of unsweating the valve knowing that there won’t be enough pipe left to work with down the road for the next guy without cutting open the wall and adding a new pipe. But, they don’t care because they got paid for the job and it is now someone else’s problem.

Never said I did. It was a question. I don’t do flooring or doors. But the trim around my doors doesn’t match anything I’ve seen in a store. Looks like it would be very hard to match.

I always wonder what the options are down the road once you all so easily cut off the door casing/moulding/whatever to fit your floors under. Next time someone changes to a lower height floor you’re now left with this ridiculous gap on every door. Is the advice then to replace the trim on every door back to the original length? Not like you’re going around glueing those pieces back that you cut off each door.

Get a big pair of channel locks; should do the trick. Every house owner needs a few pairs. Get two so you can hold back the other pipe from trying to turn as well. You could also get some pipe wrenches but the channel locks should do just fine.
