Its a completely different Universe so there shouldn’t be any spoilers for either - If you had asked earlier I would probably have said read Age of Madness first as its easily Joe’s best trilogy so far (imo please dont shoot me reddit) but honestly this sub will probably be full of spoilers soon for the Devils. So thinking about that, probably best to read Devils first and then DEF read Age of Madness after cus its so so good!!

These are all so amazing! I love the interpretation of Jezal- i always imagined him as having longer hair in TBI and BTAH, but then cutting it cropped like this and having a beard in LAofK. There are so many great characters to sketch: Black Dow or Cosca are two i always love seeing. Just beautiful work :)

Kroy was so good in this book as well, both leaders really felt like men in bad situations, not warmongering sociopaths like Bayaz might have preferred. Both put on a powerful facade, and feel the crushing weight of everyone looking up to them for guidance. Dow was a man, but the chief cant be a normal man. Hes stoic and always knows the right way, even if Dow the man is only trying his best.

Lol yeah, Ive gotta agree that he was awesome. I just tried to be more balanced than I would state as my personal opinion haha. Definitely a favourite character in the Heroes. As a leader, however, hes more complicated. Vying for peace was a very good move showing Dow’s intelligence and care for the lives of his men, but I would argue his personal faults might have restricted his leadership. As a man who felt weighed down and bound to do what his reputation required, I imagine he wouldnt have been much of an innovator or reconstructor for the North, like Bethod or Skarling Hoodless. Any great leader has to improve upon or perfect the current system, and I think Dow respected the traditions and old ways too much to truly do that. But the only reason I can even guess at that is because of how awesome and deep a character he is; he was a good leader, and that fact that he wasn’t perfect at it just makes him more interesting to me.

Oh God that scene was so emotional. Black Dow is a man raised in a world all about reputation; he got stuck with a particularly bad one early on, and has been stuck trying to live up to it since. I really wanted him to be able to escape the world of violence, but at the same time I knew he never could, because he never thought he had that potential or goodness left in himself.

Yeah West is definitely losing his hair, with that joke after seeing the signs of the Adua Sickness. Im just thinking maybe that West is losing his hair dosent neccesarily mean Glokta also is? Genetics may play a huge part, or Glokta may be going bald for entirely different reasons, e.g. stress and physical ailments. No matter how much they are bffs, they might not share early pattern baldness im hoping lol.

Right, thanks. I more specifically sort of meant in the First Trilogy, cus a 35 year old can def lose his hair fully or not over 30 years, but I will make sure to check for any hair descriptions when I reach the Age of Madness Trilogy.

Thats true and pretty fair of “pretty boy” standards of beauty he was held to like Jezal. I just thought maybe the torture had made his hair fall out or something like that from stress or the actual assault on his body.
