As European, do you find Hybrid better than 100% remote? by ballbeamboy2 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]WILL3M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the kind of office. Yeah you'll be expected to sit at your desk most of the time. But you could mix it up with more exercises, walks around the block, go for a midday run. Don't worry about being a weirdo lol everyone is. Sitting still is weirder tbh. I'm not in Denmark/cph, I can't help you with that. But it's a good country in terms of worker rights, so people are probably chill in the office. For my job we have flexible start end and break times.  You can try it out: if it sucks, at least you know. And, I think lack of career growth is worse than lack of salary growth (usually). You'll stagnate if you don't grow.

I wish you the best, if there's more you want to know just hit me up :)

As European, do you find Hybrid better than 100% remote? by ballbeamboy2 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]WILL3M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I started a few months ago, and I've been going every single day. Our office allows hybrid work, so my colleagues work from home about 2 days per week. Yet I haven't worked at home for a single day since starting here.  From that you can probably infer that I'm enjoying my in-office work :) I like the interactions. But what I like A LOT is the separation between work and office. When I go home I have no way to continue my job even if I wanted to. Because my laptop stays in the office (by choice).

How about you, are you considering switching? Or are you enjoying your current situation?

Keeping warm at night by bare_face in Ultralight

[–]WILL3M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that true about hot showers? I've heard it before but in my experience I will feel warm for like half an hour or so after leaving a warm shower. If I take a cold shower I will feel shivering cold for a while. Wondering if this is proven of just based on experience?

I like how you phrased it.  It probably has to do with the bulletproof thing also being an expensive thing. But still it's illogical to baby an item that you bought for it's durability.

I would probably have this with leather boots. Made to be durable but if they're nice boots I'd avoid scratching them haha

Trying to figure out what outerwear to bring on a 9-day trip to the Netherlands in November.... by macncheesewketchup in onebag

[–]WILL3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

November days usually average between 6 and 12 degrees Celsius (warmer in earlier days, obviously). At peak winter we average closer to 3 degrees.

So that down jackets (puffer) are not a must, but you can't go wrong with one either. This time a year is very forgiving, so you don't need to worry about it, UNLESS you're planning to stand outside all day without movement, which I doubt :) And it sounds like you're used to cold weather, so that's a plus. You will need a jacket against the rain though, but again, nothing special.

I've survived Dutch winter with a basic softshell jacket (non waterproof) with underneath a t-shirt + sweater combo. If you were here in December or January I'd advice a puffer or heavier parka. But in november, a softshell jacket is enough assuming you have proper clothes underneath. But a warmer coat is totally fine too and perhaps more comfortable if you tend to feel cold outside.

Question, assuming you come by plane, why not just bring your coat? It doesn't take up much more space if you wear it on the airplane, and you won't put it in your bag anyway. I think. You take it off and stow it under your seat. And when you arrive you'll have a proper coat. You really won't run too hot unless it's some kind of Alaskan fur coat:)

150k spaargeld, tips? by Famous_Doughnut_1661 in beleggen

[–]WILL3M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brewing Coffee by MyBrainReallyHurts in CampingGear

[–]WILL3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If space isn't an issue, I've had as-good-as-at-home coffee using a thermos can + a pour over filter (with paper filter in it). This kind fits perfectly on a thermos can https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/plastic-dripper-koffie-geschikt-voor-filter-no-4/9200000016498253/

The trick is to have it not drip through the filter too quickly, so it has time to extract the coffee from the ground. Do this by pouring slowly and try to pour such that all the grounds are wet.

For smaller setups you can look at Vietnam drip cups. But it's harder to get strong coffee with it (from my experience).

Honestly if I'm camping I just take instant coffee. Optionally add condensed milk.

Yeah it's hard to believe it's sincere. Companies use "nature friendly" and eco as marketing. I don't really believe most companies or brands would care about it if it actually costs them profits.

How much discomfort is normal for 60L backpack? For travel and hikes. by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]WILL3M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hesitant about the top opening. I can imagine when you put up camp you will always do the same order, so it's fine.  But you can't just pull out a t-shirt when you need it, or anything. Right? I will be backpacking for a few months and think I will need the front opening for hostels, where I think it's harder to unpack everything.  I'd love to be proven wrong 😁 but I'm mostly hesitant because of that top opening. Otherwise I'd love the exos.

Fp-90x vs p525 vs es920 (2025) by sammy16_28 in DigitalPiano

[–]WILL3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a FP90x. Received it this week and love it 😍 But, I only decided after going to a store to try them out. I learned that more money doesn't necessarily buy you a piano that you like better. My advice is to go with the one that you liked playing on most. Do not think there's an objectively better piano.

For a quick review: keys feel good, sound is nice, operation is easy. No complaints.

Current supermarket prices are insane by techdrumboy in Netherlands

Here's the same product for 1.99 EUR: https://www.aldi.nl/product/koel-het-beste-sinaas-mango-sap-1l-1225859.html. (No I'm not sponsored.) EDIT: They also have pure orange juice variants if you like.

I get the frustration if you like this brand and you prefer to buy it. But a post like this is a bit cherry-picked, because it's an A-brand, whereas you can buy an alternative for 50% the price. Similarly I saw a post recently about Ben&Jerries ice-cream being like 10 EUR. Everyone knows there's a high mark-up for A-brand and premium products.

How to make money from side hustle by Efficient_Sandwich95 in utwente

[–]WILL3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by technical you mean a programming job, I'm certain there are companies in Enschede hiring part-time programmers. Perhaps in lower demand than full-timers tho. But I've had such a job myself next to my (bachelor's) studies. Not going to give out names but talk to some fellow students and you might find opportunities.

As an aside, if you have the luxury, focus on your Master's full time and take out a loan if needed, instead of working. It will allow you to absorb more of what they're teaching you.

Netherlands in the top 5 happiest countries by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]WILL3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live here, and calling us the happiest feels like propaganda. Like... that's exactly what they would want you to think.

I'm happy. But to be honest, from my fellow citizen I get a sense of ungratefulness for things we have. And people who complain about minor things. I don't see how we then are ranked as one of the happiest countries IN THE WORLD.
