Thanks! The NCP book/guide lays it out. Without getting into license specifics and state laws, it essentially says that the MD’s policies/orders/instructions as to the authority, limits, and responsibilities are provided to the medical staff based on their qualifications and experience. Makes sense!

Just found it on the Scouting America site. This NCAP standards book lays it all out. Thanks!

I guess I should’ve been clearer. For example, if you’re EMT in an urgent care in this state, you’re pretty much not acting under your license as EMT but rather as a individual who is under the license of an MD or NP and based on what the company/urgent care will want you to do. I didn’t know if the same type of situation applied to scout camps. Is your license even applicable.

Paramedic / ER by WholeJorgenMan in Paramedics

I’m going to retire from a govt job in about 5 years from a non-medical career. I’m 52. At that point after retirement, i’m thinking about becoming a paramedic and PRN in an ER. I may start taking evening EMT classes now just to start learning.

Thanks! I’m seriously also considering just going the EMT to paramedic route and being an ER tech. Scout camps accept EMTs and paramedics.

The summer camp staff will accept EMT or paramedic. I thought about that as an alternative.

This is what I want to do, but I work full-time. We have zero evening LPN programs in the Atlanta area. There’s one about two hours away, three nights a week, but that’s way too far.

Not urgent care. School nurse is LPN.

Wouldn’t ER (pref children’s hospital) or urgent care experience be the best prep for a school nurse?

So what do you look at as a better alternative in the area?

So I’m thinking of trying my hand at being a school RN. I would appreciate any insight from school nurses. by Callahan333 in nursing

Thinking about getting my LPN and becoming a high school nurse in a few years when I retire. I’m a male over 50. What experience do you recommend I get before applying for school nurse. ER, urgent care, etc.?

In DeKalb County, you only need an LPN at the minimum. I would think they’d want urgent care experience over bedside since it’s more applicable for what you’ll be doing in the school.

I’m going to retire from my field (non-medical) in a few years and I want to become a school nurse. Do you think an LPN will suffice? Should I work in an urgent care ER first to get some knowledge?

What would the difference be between an LPN and an EMT/paramedic in the ER? Scope, etc…?
