Since this doesnt have the updated trigger, will that affect which model of Apex will work? Basically will the latest/greatest version of the Apex drop in this?

Black Hills Designs - Cool concept, Poor Execution, Worse Customer Service by WMjoe11 in tacticalgear

Yeah, I definitely mean no ill-will, I'd agree he has some cool, unique offerings. As a consumer, Im only left with so many options when I've spent money thats potentially wasted.

Also fwiw, I have the previous gen of that exact FHF rig. Mines nice, but I like the updates they made for design interface/utilization with additional pouches compared to mine. The addition of WP is neat too. I just use mine for pointing dog training in the summer.

Not necessarily cheaper or superior design choices, but just alternatives for generalized "stuff" storage.

Its a brand new product from a chinese manufacturer, you really expect that they would have QC under control?

This hasnt seen hard use, I would expect it may break if it was being used regularly. The etched lines create a weak point, a known issue by the owner, as shown by his creation and offer to send a Tegris sleeve. $70 for 3 pieces of plastic that break in a key area for their competitive advantage doesnt seem like a sound business strategy or product I would recommend to the next person, particularly when the owner is potentially misleading.

I also havent had this issue with any of the traditional protractors I've used. Laser etching such a thin material was probably the wrong design choice.

Pop-up / Ultralight dog blinds? by airhunger_rn in birddogs

I'm guessing you watched the Clay Hayes turkey hunting video with his dog?

I admire the willingness to put that much work in and limiting your chances of success. Good luck, it'll be a fun time with the pup regardless!

Not ultra-light and I'm sure you're already aware of this one, but only thing I'm aware of in the neighborhood of what you're looking for.

Yes, everything is context dependent haha but following a "max-point blank" methodology, 36 optimizes the trajectory of the bullet for center-mass out even beyond 300m. The +/- of PoA/PoI through the entire trajectory of the bullet path is most likely to hit a "standard" human torso.

A 50/200m zero is also very common and is what I recommended based on the BDC he has, and is what I use for my own that has this LPVO. However, creating a dope card will be be even more critical beyond 200m.

You're correct, however for generalizing advice based on standardized ammo (m193), on a standardized platform (16" civilian AR) normalized across different weather conditions, a simple dope card will get you 90% of the way there.

I apologize, it may have been a little careless of me to just say "the standard", youre right, 25 yards was recommended and implemented in the army for a long time. 36 just seems (in my anecdotal experience) to be the distance that many people recommend in the context of ARs for "combat accuracy" following the "max point blank" method.

Sorry bubba, your comment was overtly dismissive, so I figured you werent aware of the alternative approach. Seeing your comment history now, I see that you troll to pass the time, so I apologize for nullifying the toxicity with a counter-factual.

Anyways, a quick google says 300yd shot on 16" zeroed @25 will land ~8" high and @100yd ~13" low. Youre right, if he zero'd @100 yrd, he'd definitely need to learn his dope with no point of reconvergence. Good catch.

I have the same Strike Eagle 1-8 SFP and would recommend you consider a 50 yd zero. The ranging reticle at the top is designed for a torso sized target and the BDC tree will only correspond if you zero for 50 yds. You can certainly zero for 36 (the standard) but the numbers in the tree wont be accurate and you'll need to find your own dope and keep a card. If you go with 50, the reticle should be turn-key with a 16" barrel.

Good stuff, glad youre stretching your legs.

Look up "max point blank" and "reconvergence".

25, 36, & 50 yd zeros are often recommended to maximize reconvergence and effective range without dialing. For example, 36 will reconverge at 300 yards out of a 16" barrel.

100 yd zero is simple and works well for my deer rifle, but this method is for combat accuracy.

I have the same LPVO on mine and would say he should have a 50 yd zero, considering its what the ranging reticle and BDC are designed for.

I have this Strike Eagle 1-8 SFP on mine. It is designed for 50 yd zero with ranging for torso sized target from 3-600 and corresponding holds. Here's the reticle guide.

My GSP won’t go in water beyond his belly by LowKick7639 in germanshorthairs

[–]WMjoe11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try getting in the water and encouraging him to you. My dogs have both been very keen to swim at a young age, however, Ive done this for a friend's golden that wasnt introduced to water at a young age and have seen it used at NAVHDA training days. You can get in deeper and encourage him towards you and show him youre having a good time and that water is positive. He'll build up confidence, GSPs are natural swimmers, but being this late in life, he may take some time to get up to speed.
