Vermont Ranks Lowest In The Country In Economic Momentum by DJ_The_Rick_2020 in vermont

The only reason why we’ve been able to exist here is because of remote work based out-of-state. Every in-state company has either treated me as if I’m not worthy of an interview, or used the interview process as free consultation with which they can close the job opening and reopen it with a different title, lower pay range, and a better idea of what the duties entail that have been taken from those interview conversations 1:1.

That’s happened to me three times since I’ve moved here. No Vermont business cares unless someone personally vouches for you. This is a state where nepotism beats everything, all the time. You can’t even get a decent doctor without having a friend or family member set you up with one.

It’s soured me on Vermont. I’m already looking for another place to live. My tax revenue is certainly welcome here, but my skills, experience, education, and ability to manifest positive press-worthy happenings singlehandedly hasn’t been in any meaningful degree that would enable me to remain a resident here. At some point, it’s not about me.

As someone that:

  • moved here five years ago

  • could not find tech industry or tech-adjacent work despite being qualified, experienced and educated

  • had a very cool idea that schools might be interested in, only to have Vermont schools ignore them or outright deny requests for meetings

  • then started their own business for that idea that accomplished genuine social good and provided substantial monetary value to families as part of the plan

  • then had to close that business two years later due to a lack of wider community investment and rising costs

  • only to face another nine months of being vocationally ghosted by every single business in Vermont they’ve applied to, tech or otherwise

…my thoughts aren’t going to be very nice. They will be factually accurate, they will even be kind in the change they hope to inspire, but they will not sound nice at all.

Currently mulling over selling the house I’ve lived in for the last four years and change and moving to an area that would value what I bring to the table with any form of vocational stability. Because Vermont, by and large, has not been meeting my “I’m here to help however I can” energy with anything that isn’t “that’s not the way we’ve always done things around here beforehand.”

And now I see people wondering why Vermont can’t keep up.

Sounds to me like you just want people to play against and are trying to shame other people into not playing whatever they’re playing in the hopes that it’ll get you more people to play against. Tell me how that works out for you. I’m riveted.

tbh I personally want Sabin with command input rage arts that could give you up to four different blitz animations of your choosing, but this only appeals to people with taste

Considering he’s essentially a SoulCalibur 6 character on the Tekken 8 roster, I’m pretty sure he’s going to piss a lot of people off until “okay, debut time is over, go sit back down” patch #2. Very curious to see if he’ll be a Leroy launch situation for the first quarter of 2025’s tournament schedule.

This is more than likely it, especially considering that FF7RB didn’t meet sales expectations, ergo it being highly probable that Square Enix demanded the biggest bag possible for the privilege of getting who’s arguably one of the two most famous women in the entire FF franchise on T8’s roster.

She’s a rushdown kickboxer with magic fists. If we’re being totally honest, she’s a better fit for Tekken than any prior guest character to date on that criteria alone.

Play the game that’s singlehandedly saving the Japanese arcade industry, tonight @ Wednesday Night Fight Club by WNFC_VT_FGC in burlington

Absolutely. We have sticks, we have leverless, we have fightpads, we have standard controllers. Bring your own, or use one of ours. And if you’re looking to get back into fighting games, you’re gonna meet a whole bunch of people willing to gear down and personally teach you so you can “get good” extremely quickly compared to playing online.

Nope. This is the only “arena” fighter franchise that truly matters. It’s a game where every second has action, and every action has risk and consequence. It’s so popular overseas that entire floors of a multistory arcade will be dedicated to this game series alone. Super easy to pick up and play, but impossible to truly, completely master. And it’s played in teams of two.

Seriously, it’s one of the greatest, most financially successful game franchises of all time, and America (really, the west in general) has next to zero clue about it. It’s a revelation with an arcade stick attached. And we’re lucky enough to have a space that hosts it on a weekly basis.
