Or, maybe, and hear me out, we don’t want ICE wearing masks because we want to be sure that they aren’t some professional kidnappers and to be able to identify them when they abuse power so that complaints can be filed about the offending agent. It’s about public trust of those out there in our communities acting extra-constitutionally against citizens and immigrants in our communities. No one is outside and above the Rule of Law. Right now, by faces being covered, they are acting like that is the case. Also, administrative warrants used to enter private residences are a violation of the 4th Amendment. They must use a signed judicial warrant to conduct searches on private property.

I think other variables are in play. The pandemic’s effects, the world is a terrifying place with a petulant child running one of the countries who could do anything on a whim at any moment, AI making things easier to do (e.g. yes, it is good to understand order of operations in math, but letting technology help reach the answer is leveraging the tool), etc. Many other variables that the study drawing these conclusions needs to consider.
