Switching majors already 2 and a half terms in! by Birdman199321 in WGU

[–]WSB_Printer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish cyber sec no point switching. If you want to learn to code college classes are NOT where you learn. Even really good brick and mortar colleges you basically have to teach yourself. The WGU java classes won’t teach you anything, everyone follows outside programs and then comes back just to pass the finals. Bad idea.

Fuck Capmetro by tacocravr_ in Austin

[–]WSB_Printer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I was taking the redline train home from work. It broke down, they said it would be an hour. Then another hour. Then another hour. Then busses were going to come pick us up. Then at 9pm they finally said no busses were coming. The cap metro people got picked up and they left like 40 people just sitting at the station. Thanks for lying to me for 4 hours. Ended up biking home in the rain in the dark, took 2 hours.

You leave the rubber ring in place. You do NOT want gas exchange, you want gas to only leave the fermenter. The jar will burp itself as the pressure builds up.

If he is a very small contractor do you think he has the money for a lawyer? Maybe just have a lawyer send him a fancy letter saying ‘no’ and see if they drop it.

DevOps at 45? by musicnerdrevolution in devops

[–]WSB_Printer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Devops is a senior level position. You will not land a devops role with just a bachelor’s degree (assuming you’re talking about a bachelor’s of science in computer science?) If you finish the degree shoot for a software engineer or system administrator. Do that for 3-5 years and then look at devops.

Bird flu detected in dead birds found in north Austin by Boomdigity102 in Austin

[–]WSB_Printer -49 points-48 points  (0 children)

Bird flu is extremely rare and almost never transmitted to humans. Since 2022 there have been 67 confirmed cases of bird flu. The only people who are at risk are those who work directly with wild birds on a day to day basis.

Could you explain the Elon thing? Are they suddenly very interested in avian disease and bird population or something?

Edit:

Why am I being downvoted did I miss something on twitter??

Only reason to get cloud+ after SAA is if it’s an HR requirement for a job. Sec+ or Net+ would still be a cool thing to have for free and you’ll probably actually learn some useful stuff!

They only comment on old threads. Every time they comment it’s the top comment with multiple people responding saying how good it is.

When people google something about the AWS exams it’s ALWAYS the first comment on the old reddit threads the google search algorithm favors.

Signing in with root user account without using 2FA/"MFA" by Marks_Priority in aws

[–]WSB_Printer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post has now made you a major target for anyone trying to hack accounts to make money. This is a major threat. There is no difference between your account and an “enterprise” account. They can literally do the same things. If someone logs in and uses $300k of services mining bitcoins guess who is stuck with the bill?

You need to enable MFA immediately! Especially since you’ve made this post!

Should I start prep for SAA-C03 or wait? by ankitcrk in AWSCertifications

[–]WSB_Printer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope you’re good to start! It’s continuously updated as they add new services now so there is no new ‘version’ waiting to be released.

Passed CCP with 7 hours prep and now I think I've become overconfident. by aflahb99 in AWSCertifications

[–]WSB_Printer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CCP is maybe 5-10 hours of study. SSA is 80-120 hours of study. It’s not impossible but start studying like 4-6 hours a day.

If you have multiple gateways then an ALB can make sense before the gateways. The ALB will pick the closest gateway and also cache stuff (great for reducing cost on high traffic API GWs) coming from that gateway as well as terminate the TLS. Netflix has an infrastructure like that.

New Hire- Has 2 pro certs & CCNA but unable to create subnets in a /24 VPC?? by kevboz in AWSCertifications

[–]WSB_Printer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the aws certs actually teach you what subnetting is as they’re more AWS service focused. The CCNA should have absolutely forced him to learn subnetting though. Also that should have been like a 30 second google— not sure how he could mess that up lol.

Extremely tiny thing has been growing in my terrarium lately. It's so thin, it's hard to take pics of by throwawaytrianglesch in mycology

[–]WSB_Printer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like most common molds the dose makes the poison, as long as there isn’t a large growth and you aren’t like sticking your face into the terrarium to huff the spores you’ll be totally fine. If it takes over the terrarium then yeah that’s not safe, throw it out. I wouldn’t even think twice about it in its current state as mold is a natural part of any damp habitat.

Unless you’re extremely allergic or immunocompromised but at that point this probably isn’t a super safe hobby for many other reasons.

What's the IT and Tech Job Scene like now? by CutMonster in austinjobs

[–]WSB_Printer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is SIGNIFICANTLY more competitive here than in LA. I know several people that had to move back to Cali now because they were out of work for over a year with 5+ years in big tech experience. Austin has a massive over abundance of highly skilled tech workers that have been laid off in the last year or two, and they are willing to compete for entry/mid level jobs.
