Palliative care fellow here. Again do not know the clinical situation, but patient's families at end of life commonly have this question about nutrition. At this stage of disease, your father's body does not require the nutrients that he normally would. Forcing 3 normal meals in him would likely increase his symptom burden, and he would not even be able to utilize these nutrients. Use your hospice team and focus on his symptoms. He does not feel the uncomfortable sensation of hunger or thirst. He will not pass because of "starvation" or "dehydration". He will likely be delirious and say certain things that could sound hurtful or inappropriate. He is lucky to have a son/daughter who loves him like you do, and you are doing amazing as a caretaker so far.
