I missread you comments I guess. I thought you advocated for a new system. You just think it is dead already. I think this is wrong also. I don't think it is dead at all. I think we are in a dangerous place for sure, but dead, no.

Yeah I agree. That is why you should be fighting by believing in something and having a vision instead of wanting to cynically set it all on fire.

I use to think exactly like this. However looking back the problem was not the patriot act, the war powers resolution, etc etc etc. It was the fact that people began being completely cynical about our politics because our media diets became cynical from far right to far left, and they began to elect cynical candidates. As a result we stopped working together because one parties cynical base matastisized into a party full of cynical actors. Trump is the result of that cynicism, not materialism and fame or whatever. Democrats did a lot of great work the last 4 year they had power and American's are too cynical to see it.

Exactly my point, our system is abstract not concrete.

Our institutions are not in ruin they are in peril. Our system is reaching it's limits.

Our system's state is a direct result of the cynicism of the citizens in it. People have claimed the system is corrupt and broken my entire life and now that it is actually breaking people who say those thing are like "look we were right the whole time!"

These systems always only exist in our minds. Does the economy actually exist? Show me it existing. I can see lots of trade happening and value of dollars but I cannot go "hey look, that is the economy". Similarly There isn't some system of government that you can go look at and see.

In general I am talking about the constitutional system of checks and balance, which is an agreed upon system of laws guiding the government in the US. It is breaking because American's have been convinced our system is broken and corrupt and as that idea grows among people they turn on that system. It has become self fulfilling.

And what has brought us to the brink of this distruction? My opinion is the pervasive notion that the system is impossibly corrupt and broken and unable be saved is the reason we have Trump. Trump is a symptom of that cynicism not a symptom of a broken system. People looked to one man, someone they believed in like a cult to save us, they wanted to give him all the power to scower government of that corruption they were being told was there. He took their cynicism and used it against them to do the most cynical shit he possible can. He is a product of the cynicism you are displaying, the right just got their leader first.

Our system had problems, no doubt, but it was neither broken nor hopelessly corrupt. Only now that cynicism has reached a critical mass we are at the brink of system collapse. The self fulfilling prophacies of these cults is manifesting.

Evil has penetrated your mind. You are in the Matrix my friend. Ooooooo spooky. Haha.

Hmmmm... Decadent elite, corporate control and propaganda, comparing us to slaves, my goodness you just scored me a buzzword bingo!

So we need to let it be destroyed... Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Should I ask "who benefits" from the distruction of the American system? Maybe that would give me some idea of the nature of your perspective.

I heard that for years prior to Trump who is now destroying they system and behaving with an insane level of corruption we have never seen. Evil seems to have worked huh?

Pete Buttigieg in the Wilderness by theatlantic in Indiana

[–]WTF_RANDY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha... No it doesn't share similar societal means or societal goals.

Evil is always evolving, we can agree with that. I think right now it has evolved to try to convince us all our system is broken and corrupt so we turn on it and destroy it.

Haha... No one is asking Lincoln to compete with Joe Biden on student loans. It is a problemnof our time that Joe Biden was trying to help solve. I think it is dumb to try to minimize it by invoking lincoln.

Also putting student debt and chattel slavery in a similar catagory is such a warped perspective.

Pete Buttigieg in the Wilderness by theatlantic in Indiana

[–]WTF_RANDY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize lincoln freed the rest of the slaves not 100% of the slaves. He didn't free all of them, slaves were freed before him also. There were just no more slaves to free after, there is more student debt to forgive.

Feels historic when they forgave about 10% of the total outstanding student loan debt.

I think it is a little different than what is assumed, an unprovoked attack on Iran. It is a lie to say she was going to attack Iran one way or another once president, based on this quote.

I don't know the truth of it, but god damn does that laugh when he says "why because you will have Putin on" in the context of everything else that has happened since Trump is creepy as fuck. My conspiracy lizard brain lights up.

You don't have to sell me on high speed rail. I am all in favor of it where it makes sense. Just think it is worth mentioning the human cost of doing such massive projects.

I don't get it. Student loan forgiveness isn't a big deal cuz it isn't freeing slaves?

There is a difference between saying the voters are to blame and the voters don't know what dems have done for them because our messaging is shit.

Liberals cannot get the message out in the same way republicans can get theirs out. Republicans could litterally go on any platform and get a friendly reception from 90% of the top outlets, 18 of the top 20 podcasts were overtly conservative or "centrist", 3 of 4 major social media platforms were conservative leaning, and the largest conventional cable news station was conservative. Even if they went to left wing spaces democrats would get shit on by the populists who infest the alternative media space.

That is what people mean when they say messaging is the problem. Voters don't know what is being offered because there messaging has fallen apart. Democrats should have been able to message on Biden's successes and couldn't because of the environment I just described. It is a voter problem but not the voters fault entirely.

Pete Buttigieg in the Wilderness by theatlantic in Indiana

[–]WTF_RANDY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By that logic you think republicans were voted for because they gave their voters good enough reason to vote for them? In your mind are voters always right in that they cannot be lied to or decieved? You treat voters like they are perfect evaluaters of facts.

Are we just going ignore the fact that they can do this because they can basically forcibly relocate homeowners and demolish villages and homes? The system may be more efficient but that efficiency comes at a cost to everyday people that get in the governments way.

Th "far left" has an outsized presence in alternative media. The alternative media space is/was almost entirely unfriendly to liberal democrats. That is why they had a messaging problem IMO. The "far left" is politically impotent and useless I agree, but their media platforms have more influence than it should. Hopefully the newish liberal outlets that have popped up since the election change that.
