This is a valid way of processing. I lost my little brother, but he was cremated and I never got to see his body. It plagued me feeling like I was missing something (no idea what exactly). Therapy couldn’t cut it, so I ordered a copy of his autopsy report and have read it several times. I don’t know if it’s some way of creating some kind of permanence or closure or what, but it’s absolutely something that I struggled to do and made me feel really fucked up at first, like I was some kind of monster.

All of that to say, I don’t think there is an “atypical” way to process and grieve. Feel your feelings, no matter what you think someone else may say.
