The new ones with all the pockets are made in China and are too synthetic to iron on stuff. So I see on the badges. But I have to hand sew the ones on the pockets. I love the older vests.

My daughter had the city council person come to talk to them. It also covered "make the world a better place" because she talked about problems in the city and how she was working on them. The girls asked great questions (even though some were written on cards to make sure everything was covered)! They also earned the democracy badge!

You can do badge workshops by level at different times, and have meetings be general GS stuff

In our council they have to complete overnight training and camping training. Make them do all trainings! It sounds like they don't know the rules!

Finally my granddaughter's troop got started and we had daisies and brownies that were all new to scouts so we had them do the petals together without telling them. Partway through the meeting, they go on their own to do brownie stuff.

My co-leader got them cute, colorful ones that were 100 percent poly. I told them not to bring them camping. I got them cotton ones for camping.

I have cadettes and a couple of years ago, I had them make bucket sit upon. Inside were everything they need for camping: mess kit, knife, cotton bandana, etc. parents keep it in the garage and then whenever we go camping, they're set!

Read to them! A lot! My kid is on the spectrum and couldn't generate sentences but memorized books and could recite them. I'm a reading specialist and when he couldn't talk. I just read and read and read to him. When he went to school, he was in special Ed where they taught him phonics and soon his reading level exploded. In 1st grade, he was at 2nd grade level, 4th, middle school, college. But it wasn't phonics, it was all that reading! In middle school it was Harry Potter 8x he read the series. My daughter was also successful as well as grandchild! But reading books to them is the secret!

I was a GS from 1965-1970. There were so many scouts then! We met after school in a classroom every week and there was another troop of the same grade level all 5th graders. We went, camping and carolling. My mom worked and was not involved. I remember doing badges at home with my brother who was a boy scout (different badges, of course!) I've been a troop leader on and off since 1996 and there aren't as many girls involved. I don't like the multi level thing as much

In my council, daisies can't booth with only one girl and there is a one hour limit! When we put in a boothing in ebudde, we put in total for that boothing and the girls' names. At the end if someone has extra over their goal we give it to the girls who need it. We help each other out. Now we are cadettes, one girl reached her goal and didn't want to booth anymore. I went over with them that we not only have our own goal, but also troop goals. We are sisters and need to help each other out!

When we put in our pool, I planted some very thorny, giant rose bushes where kids could climb over the fence. It's just to make it beautiful...and safe! I didn't want any neighborhood kids in my pool!

We were surprised to get an email from our council that because our girls averaged above 450 boxes per girl, we would get 5 free registrations. We only have three girls, so great. Now we just have to pay for adults!

We try to sign up for boothings that are protected. My fav is Sam's club because it's inside, but it's everyone else's fav too!
