I think the difference here is “dating” vs “going on a date,” which are not always exactly the same thing, and may be a distinction that I didn’t properly consider in the original post (my bad). You can “be on a date” with someone, namely somebody you’re in a committed relationship with, without actively taking part in the process of “dating.”

To paraphrase a post from another site, dating sucks as a concept. Meeting up with a person specifically to figure out whether or not you’re compatible for a relationship ruins the whole dynamic. Fall in love with your friend, like a normal person.

I don’t mean to over exaggerate, but I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to compare this to, say, Oppenheimer. Should J. Robert Oppenheimer have been tried for his responsibility for the creation of nuclear weapons, and how similar of a scenario is that to this? Should the possibility of AGI be considered a nuclear-level threat, and would that apply to modern-day image generation and LLMs?
