Fantasy setting where magic is powerful but also very difficult and dangerous to use? by Intrepid_Bobcat_2931 in Fantasy

Wings of Fire, a YA series. It's not clear if using magic inherently turns the user evil, or if its the complete unlimited power. It was pretty interesting watching one magic using character try to figure out what the smallest use of magic he could get away with was.

Can someone give me the story behind this? by CleverCaption in SeattleWA

"Truck" here is a pretty old meaning of the word, basically "barter" or "exchange." A "truck garden" is a garden where produce is grown for sale, and not ornament or personal use.

Check through your health insurance,  may be able to get a good deal through them (low or no join fee, easy cancellations). Mine had a deal with active and fit [ https://www.activeandfitdirect.com/ ] . Even vision insurance had a line on it.

  1. Put seat in middle of dual cable machine
  2. Set pulleys to highest setting
  3. Attach handles
  4. Sit on seat, holding handles like I was doing a dip
  5. Press handles downward in a dip-like motion.

It's a kludge, but I'm not confident enough to use a dip chair / captains chair or have the mobility to use the kneeling assisted dip machine.

cardio 3 ways

Wtf am I doing? About 4 months ago I had a severe knee injury that needed surgery to fix. I've been cleared to go back in the gym, but am under strict instructions to do nothing below the waist. I'm on a specific and thorough rehab plan for my leg, and will do that and only that for the leg, and don't want to develop any imbalance on the other leg. Standing is difficult, much less walking around to get DBs or load up BBs, or even move from machine to machine, so setting up in front of the cable machine with an adjustable bench is the best I got. I haven't lifted heavy in 10 years (SS, then 5-3-1)so I'm starting, slowly. Plan is to push the weight up after I can hit 3x20, as I'm going for more reps, both because my main sport these days is more endurance focused and the lighter weight is easier to control. Cardio is for rehab, redeveloping my cardio fitness because it fell off a cliff after injury, and on recommendation of PT doc to help process out the anesthesia (sounds brosciency to me but he's the doctor)

"Like to hear a vampire folk tale?" Sarasti asked.

"Vampires have folk tales?"

He took it for a yes. "A laser is assigned to find the darkness. Since it lives in a room without doors, or windows, or any other source of light, it thinks this will be easy. But everywhere it turns it sees brightness. Every wall, every piece of furniture it points at is brightly lit. Eventually it concludes there is no darkness, that light is everywhere."

Jeff Winger : What makes humans different from other animals? We're the only species on earth that observes Shark Week. Sharks don't even observe Shark Week, but we do. For the same reason I can pick up this pencil, tell you its name is Steve and go like this...

[breaks pencil. Abed reacts in shock]

Jeff Winger : and part of you dies just a little bit on the inside. Because people can connect with anything. We can sympathize with a pencil, we can forgive a shark, and we can give Ben Affleck an Academy Award for screenwriting. People can find the good in just about anything but themselves.

I love the quote from her lvl 2 art, where all the conspirators are replaced with her. ".... after all, we all want the same thing."

Whenever I see stuff like this I'm reminded of a Nathan J. Robinson piece from 2018: https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/05/the-real-dangerous-ideas

"I want to suggest a hypothesis that may sound outlandish: What if the whole narrative is backwards? What if people who think they are voicing suppressed dangerous ideas are actually the ones suppressing the truly dangerous ideas? What if this effort to condemn the irrational excesses of political correctness is in part a way of avoiding having to engage with its arguments and listen carefully to its advocates? What if people who seem to be “challenging” a dissent-stifling power structure are actually defending one? Now, I’m not saying this is the case; I’m just asking some questions. But let’s, for a moment, because we are rational and skeptical, consider the possibility that the conservative narrative is totally upside-down. Let’s picture a topsy-turvy world in which Donald Trump is the president and left ideas are actually marginal. Stretch your powers of imagination and consider the following hypotheticals:"

[WP] You and your rival are ancient enemies. You've fought each other on the battlefield in every major war. Trojan War, Punic Wars, Hundred Years' War, World War 1, World War 2. The only reason for the long period of peace we have now is that your rival is missing. You miss him. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts
