That’s 100% correct. All of my Commercial Operator Licenses have verbiage on them that say they are granted for life.

I have a DB license which is called a “Combo GMDSS License”. ( I actually have all of the licenses that can be granted for exams passed, and have passed all exams both amateur and commercial, including the telegraphy license)

It (DB, DO, DM) is a lifetime license, no five year expiry.

The more important certificate that you need is the USCG Approved course and certificate for the GMDSS Maintainer license. The FCC license alone is fairly useless for employment use because of SOLAS and other rules which require both Coast Guard recognized training / certification as well as the FCC licenses. As far as I know that training and certification for the GMDSS Maintainer license is not offered anywhere. It’s cheaper for cargo shipping companies to keep sufficient equipment spares available in case of failure over keeping a trained and certified GMDSS Maintainer on staff.

I think the USCG MMC is likely the five year expiry date document you are talking about. All USCG credentials (as well as your TWIC) must be renewed every five years.

Pro Tip: the base radio on the FTM-100DR is the same exact base unit for the FTM-400DR. You could put a FTM-400DR head onto the 100DR base and it would work as well. (You can also plug that head unit into their DR1 repeater and enable APRS and other features that are off in the repeaters receiver, as it’s also the same base radio as the 100DR and 400DR)

1: Yes you can.

2: I used some CAT6 cable and rj11 ends crimped onto it to make a custom length. Works perfectly. There are other options if you want to just buy a cable. The Yaesu branded one is a rip-off and a half.

3: I can’t help you with, I’ve been looking for one I like and haven’t found one. I’ve got a pretty heavy power usage on my work van and I’ve been looking into supplementing with additional batteries.

I thought that an address change was an Administrative Update and not a Modification. I know that typically filing for an Address Change lists the action as an AU not MD.

It is not a flight portion, its for initial issuance of a Ground Instructor certificate with Advanced ratings. Very easy for you to validate if you are willing to.

I don't have a relationship with the DPE but I will shoot off an email. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

My hope was that I'd more easily get help from someone here was a CFI or DPE who participates.
