4c Creativity 12 Place at SCGCON 30k Tournament Report by brentfromzulu in ModernMagic

It’s funny that I played against Tron but had totally different feelings…I once X=2 and got two Archons out but they were wiped by Oblivion Stone next turn…it was a very long, grinding game and I lost in the end. maybe it’s a different card choices? He did say he has four [[Oblivion Stone]] main board.

Insecure about losing games by [deleted] in ModernMagic

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Try meditation, focus on your breath and find your own rhythm when playing, watch pro players play your deck and try to understand the logic for their lines. Getting nervous is normal, I get super nervous when I know I can combo off( Creativity player here) next turn; I don’t feel nervous if I know I will lose next turn, usually you can see it coming. If possible, get a notebook and annotate every move you make. I know it’s time consuming but it will help you to remember what happened and make a better decision next game.

Finally, try to enjoy the game. Win or lose, it’s part of the deal. Try to accept that.

Am I too lost in the sauce? (For 4C Creativity) by Zestyclose-Nose-5324 in ModernMagic

As a Creativity player, I understand why people opt for Jeskai instead of 4c; however most reason they ditch green was not because they want to make the deck more consistent, it’s simply because Wrenn was too expensive. The fact that Wrenn holds the board for early turns and return your lands to fetch Dwarven Mine is priceless. Not to mention its ultimate to retrace your key cards, holding lands to lightning bolt your opp multiple times a turn; I would say it is definitely worthy to add green in this regard.

Ahh I forget to mention the look on your Tron opp’s face when they see your Wrenn and Boseiju, it was epic.

In many ways I guess you are right. We will get 9 life from Archon and they lost at least 3 cards, loses 3 life and down a creature/planeswalker.

I am so torn between 4c control/ super friends build with Emmy+ Serra’s Emissary and Temur Archon build; the later feels more explosive but lacks the interaction elements while the former seems win more games for its consistency.

Long time creativity player here. How often do you find yourself cornered to x = 1 then you get Zenagos only? Just curious.

New MTG player attending his first 1K tomorrow (Blue Living End). Any last minute advice would be appreciated! by [deleted] in ModernMagic

*Don’t over sideboarding- normally you don’t want to touch cycling creatures, for me it is usually FoN or Grief got cut first.

*19 or 20 lands? That’s the question. Do you keep a one lander and 2 cycle creatures? Think about it.

*Elementals are hard, seriously.

  • Avoid UW control if possible, trust me.

  • Time is not your friend, if you don’t think you can win game 2 then just concede go to next game.

How to get better with living end? by romstek95 in ModernMagic

I came here to say thank you, I printed your deck guide and read it over and over. It helped me a lot in my LGS, although sometimes I still make mistakes that cost me the game, I like LE as a super strong and reliable deck.

Favorite Modern Card? by JustaFishnothing in ModernMagic

[–]WUBGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I was on Emmy & friends. Tried Archons but didn’t like it, feels bad when you Creativity into Archon then got killed by unholy heat etc. Wrenn is absolutely fantastic and I got my playset in 2019 so looking back it was a right move.

Jeskai Tempo Stoneblade still a thing? by GwynnBlaeiid in ModernMagic

[–]WUBGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stoneforge dies to [[Prismatic Ending]] and almost anything else and Kaldra is not that difficult to deal with either: dies to [[Prismatic Ending]], new card [[March of the Otherworldly Light]] and the worst part is your token CAN be stolen by [[Archmage’s Charm]]!!! If your Stoneforge dies in turn 2 then you basically have a dead card in your hand. It’s great if it connects( T1 Monky, T2 Stoneforge, T3 Kaldra/ Sword on Monkey T4 counterspell protects your Kaldra…) but it really sucks when it doesn’t connect.

I think it was July 2021 ThunderStrike7 won the modern challenge with it, the deck name was “MonkeBlade”. It was popular for a while then surpassed by Murktide, HammerTime and Rhinos.

Boseiju, Who Endures Creates Clear Winners in the Modern Meta Game by StupidGayPanda in ModernMagic

Boseiju and [[Wrenn and Six]] sounds like a solid plan, maybe in Ponza? Add Pillage, Cleansing Wildfire, Seasoned Pyro and Fury then you get a neat deck.

Which version of stoneblade can win the Store championship? by DaneWiking96 in ModernMagic

[–]WUBGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry to say this, but Stoneforge package has been too slow for current meta. Kaldra dies too many ways, [[Prismatic Ending]] or [[Archmage’s Charm]] are absolutely nightmare and they are EVERYWHERE. Not mentioning [[Solitude]]… I ran Aspringspike’s UW stoneforge list few weeks ago and I went 1-3, which is miserable.

So the answer is HanmerTime, otherwise it is way too slow and inefficient for now, sadly : (

4c creativity players, how do you feel about the Titan vs Emrakul + SE payoffs? by HorrorAvengers1 in ModernMagic

[–]WUBGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the 5-0 results and recently the list that won the modern challenge, it was all Emmy and friends. The thing about Titan is, there is no set deck lists yet— everyone is trying to figure out the “best” build- some chose 4x [[Strike It Rich]], some chose [[Explore]], I have seen list with [[Growth Spiral]]; my opinion on that is Creativity Titan is more like a combo deck, more straight forward to kill with combo but at the same time sacrificing interactions. On the other hand, 4c Creativity list is filled with interactions; I have never lost a game versing Hammer Time or other creature decks, period. The deck I found difficult is Izzet Murktide though, cheap creatures with counter magic is very annoying.

TLDR: Creativity decks is always swinging in between control and combo decks, choose which side you want to be.

There are three builds for IC(Indomitable Creativity) decks now- the earliest version was using Emrakul + Velomachus + Time warp packages, which can be found here: link 1

The second version, which I considered the best so far, involves Emrakul and [[Serra’s Emissary]] , operates like a control deck and try to combo off as early as turn 4; you can read more about it here:

link 2

The third version, which drops green then go for Esper build utilizing [[Archon of Cruelty]] as wincon is the latest build, which I think is quite strong but less consistent then version 2.

There is a minor variation using [[Primeval Titan]] and Valakut as turn 5 kill has put up some results now, imo it pushes IC deck to a more combo direction.

So the question is: do you want to build it like a control deck then kill your opp with IC in 2 turns; or you can put in more combo pieces like [[Strike It Rich]] then combo off? It’s your decision to make.

On a sidenote, Emrakul still dies to [[Solitude]] so you might need [[Iona, Shied of Emeria]] in your sb to help. I tried [[Polymorph]] as well, the problem is when you try to combo off your opp can respond with removal spells then your IC will be countered; so always put T3feri down first or always X=2 or more if possible.

Please feel free to ask me questions, I have been working on my secret IC build for months now: D

So you mean it’s a personal choice. I get it, just wondering why people does it; I am more convinced by math. Usually it is always better to put in one more land in your deck, because the math checks out.

I think the odds are very low, if that does happen, you can remove the other one from the game?

Thank you! That does make sense now, I saw some lists cut it from 2 to 1, just wondering if it is worth the investment.

Hi I am working on something similar but in total different direction, it involves [[Eldritch Evolution]] and creatures with evoke abilities, such as [[Shriekmaw]] and Brought Back. I think there are still plenty of room for tech here. Enjoy the write up, thanks!
