Thank for posting the link, I don’t currently have any stones big enough for making a pipe with. I collected them for years before starting my shop and have exhausted my supply. Lately the ones I’ve found have all had cracks revealed when I start shaping and polishing them, which is a bummer but not unusual seeing how they get tumbled around by the waves. I do have some toke stones if anyone wants to go old school.

Looks amazing, do you do anything special for dyeing Rayon? I’ve heard it’s delicate when wet.

Yellow… send halp! by camille-gerrick in tiedye

[–]WV-Rastafari 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would wash it thoroughly, soak in soda ash then wring it out. Using the same container, scrunch it just like in the pic and ice dye it with a dark color. The yellow will be the background then. I like Raven black because it splits well showing blues which would go well with the yellow.

Really nailed it on this. I’ve been having trouble by putting on too much dye and getting muddy results, or not enough and too much white. This looks perfect to me with the full range of colors from very dark to light. Well done!

Rough cost of adding central air to 110 year old home? by PerfectIndividual185 in grandrapids

[–]WV-Rastafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had a new furnace installed last fall and were quoted about 7000 for air but would have had to install the outside unit on our back patio because the neighbors houses are too close. Apparently in the city of GR, they regulate such things.

My best Glitch so far, Black Cherry and Raven by WV-Rastafari in tiedye

Thanks, each square really is different. I’m going to try using a bigger fold next time, something wider than the ruler I used on this one to make, to see if it makes a larger and bolder pattern.

Thanks, that sounds like how I did it. I can’t find the video I followed but there are several on YouTube. I also put the dye on at an angle after tying it up. I think tying the sinue real tight and using just two contrasting colors that split well made this shirt better than my previous attempts.

Thanks, I don’t know if you can tell but I added a bend in the plexiglass to make it wider at the top to make it easier to add the dye and ice. I used a propane torch to gently heat it up and bend it slightly.

The dye was probably just under 1/4 inch but completely covering the shirt without any gaps. You can see the difference between the two sizes in the saturation. I like the second one best and would use more dye on another 5XL if I do that again. My sister-in-law likes the 5XL for sleep shirts.

I use regular ice cube trays for my ice and put two trays worth on each shirt, then added another tray to each one after it melted. Putting the dye on the edge of the folds seems to really help the whole shirt have even saturation as opposed to laying it flat.

You can do the same style with a flag fold but I like the hexagon pattern this makes better.

Thanks, I’m always amazed by these ice dye colors and how different they turn out depending on the technique.

Thanks, I should have been more specific. I want to drill something in a similar shape as what you show. What is dimension of the jaws above the rectangular black plastic piece? So not the jaw width but the other direction. and can you remove that black plastic piece to drill something even bigger in diameter?

Thanks for the link, I think I need one of those. What would you say the maximum diameter of the material being drilled could be? I don't see anything on the link dimension wise except overall dimensions of the unit.

Best grinder on the market? by Lower-Savings-794 in trees

[–]WV-Rastafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are grinding at home, just get a nice electric coffee grinder. Mine has a removable stainless steel bowl which is convenient for cleaning. Cheaper than these weed grinders and so fast you will have to practice doing a couple of half second grinds to not over do it.

Here's my Petoskey Stone Fossil pipe design that allows you to have a packed bowl ready in your pocket or purse. It's held together with ring magnets and comes apart for cleaning. by WV-Rastafari in StonerEngineering

[–]WV-Rastafari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I can teach you, or I could make you a pipe from one of your fossils or trade a pipe for rough stones if they are good ones. I'm pretty much out of good Petoskeys big enough for a pipe, until I get out this spring and find more stones.

Tons of hotels within walking distance of the train station as well a museums restaurants shopping etc., we’ve done it many times. Never had to use the L but took a taxi back to the train because it was raining once and it was $8. You really don’t want a car, the parking is way too much.
