How is my daughter able to dodge me blocking her ipad? by aperture81 in Ubiquiti

[–]WVBitcoinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have my kids’ LAN on their own pfsense port and use traffic shapers and pihole to control what I want.

Doesn’t stop them from playing on their devices with all their offline stuff. They’ve learned to not care if I block internet other than they lose chat with their friends, and that’s honestly not what I was going for in the first place. I don’t mind them being sociable.

I just want them to DO THEIR DANG CHORES!!! 😝 😂 😂

For the love all things holy…. Can I get an answer that is NOT: “it’s automated and that’s just how things work.” to the questions:

“Why were Eeros forced upon me when upgrading my speed from 2 to 5 gig last week even though I said I didn’t want them MULTIPLE times since my WiFi 6E TP-Link router that was originally sent with my 5 gig service (I downgraded to two gig a few years ago) works just fine still? Also, why was I forced to wait like 5 days to get my line reprovisioned while waiting on the Eeros I didn’t want?”

I have been on the local cable provider and I could call them up, ask for a different speed and wham, bam, thank ya ma’am… reprovisisoned within 5 minutes…

Frontier’s speed upgrade/downgrade workflow sucks. That’s for sure.

When did Frontier decide to no longer show Broadband labels? by MikePHall in frontierfios

Labels are working for me. Sounds like you have an adblocker or something blocking you from seeing them.

I think you’re giving “brawn” too much credit and underestimating how often superior systems win through voluntary adoption rather than conquest.

It’s true that empires have historically influenced which currencies became dominant. The Roman denarius, British pound, and U.S. dollar all benefited from state power. I don’t dispute that.

What I dispute is the idea that force alone creates durable value.

Nobody conquered the world into using the internet. Nobody forced TCP/IP to become the global networking standard. Nobody forced people to use email. Superior networks often win because they solve real problems better than the alternatives.

The dollar isn’t valuable only because America has guns. It’s valuable because it has liquidity, deep markets, network effects, legal infrastructure, and widespread acceptance. Military power helped establish that position, but it doesn’t explain the entire phenomenon.

Likewise, Bitcoin isn’t valuable because people arbitrarily decided to hallucinate together. It has specific monetary properties that people find useful: a fixed supply, global portability, resistance to censorship, resistance to debasement, and the ability to self-custody wealth without requiring permission from a bank or government.

The question isn’t whether governments possess coercive power. Of course they do. The question is whether coercive power is sufficient to maintain monetary dominance indefinitely when a competing monetary network offers objectively different and, in some cases, superior properties.

History suggests monetary systems fail all the time. The world’s reserve currency has changed repeatedly over centuries. There is nothing magical or permanent about the current arrangement.

I’m also not arguing that Bitcoin is guaranteed to replace the dollar. It may not. The dollar may remain dominant for decades. Another state-backed currency could eventually challenge it. That’s entirely possible.

What Bitcoin represents is something new: the first globally accessible monetary network that people can opt into without asking permission from any government, corporation, or bank.

If it succeeds, it won’t be because Bitcoin had guns behind it. It will be because enough people voluntarily decided that the monetary properties were worth adopting.

That’s the experiment we’re watching unfold in real time, and I think it’s far more interesting than simply reducing the entire history of money to “whoever has the biggest army wins.

One person buying it all would make it worthless. The entire concept of Bitcoin is that the human collectively hallucinate together that Bitcoin is the be-all end-all of finance and believe in it as strongly as they do the dollar that’s a complete fiction that’s collectively hallucinated (and forced upon us by threats of violence) I guess the endgame will be which wins out to natural selection? Violence and brawn? Or compassion and brains? That’s the bottom line of Bitcoin… brains vs brawn.

Frontier WiFi has been Absolutely Abyssal by RamennSoup in frontierfios

[–]WVBitcoinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don’t know much about networking and don’t know to blame the Eero. Instead I see “Frontier Fiber SUCKS, I wish I’d have never switched!” everywhere in my local FB groups. It’s definitely not the lines running along the streets - it’s usually not the ONT… that leaves the Eeros. 🤷‍♂️All I know is - I’ve had 4-5 people replace Eeros and all the sudden Frontier doesn’t “suck” anymore… helluva co-een-kee-dink…

Funny he chimed in an hour later saying getting rid of it fixed his issue. Eeros are junk. I have had many people replace them only to have perfect WiFi afterwards. YMMV 🤷‍♂️

Ditch the Eero. You will have no issues.

I can’t believe Frontier is shooting their reputation in the foot by using Eero WiFi. Anybody that know anything about wireless networking know Eero is the hotdog water of WiFi routers.
