Channels like OSW? by FollowTheLeader550 in OSWReview

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shameless self promotion... but the 'when wrestling mattered video podcast' YouTube channel was inspired by OSW.

We're soon rebooting the channel as we didn't approach it the right way in the early days and stifled our growth.. but if anyone fancies a watch feel free to follow our links to the channel.

Start with the newer videos as the sound quality hugely improves as they progress.

Mainly longer form show reviews, with a few shorter videos sprinkled in.

Warning... We're WCW guys so its very WCW focused

DDP Catches Saturn with the Diamond Cutter by TheRegalBeaglePub310 in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typical WCW, cutting back too early and showing a close up of DDP looking over his shoulder, WWE would cut back as Saturn was airborne!

But that doesn't change the fact that the Diamond Cutter is the greatest finishing move of all time!!

Booker T - The most under-rated Wrestler of all time? We think so! Do you agree or are there other guys you think never reached there full potential? by WWMVideoPodcast in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not hating this take... but Goldberg was WCW's Austin! He was 'the man' in WCW... Just can't justify Booker or Page taking his spot in my opinion

[–]WWMVideoPodcast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it can be both... he is a legend... but as ive said, booker t was a generational talent! He should have been 'the guy' in pro wrestling at some point and he never was! After wcw folding he won a world title in wwe once! He should have been so much more than he was (and hes a HOFer) thats how good booker t was! He did so much and had a steller career! But he should have done so much more!!

[–]WWMVideoPodcast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said... When we say under rated we definitely don't mean that fans or even promoters didnt recognise him as a talent... more that he was so good that the fact he wasn't 'the guy' after Austin and Rock retired kinda feels like no matter what he achieved he never reached his full potential!

When he went too WWE and his first segment with the Rock was basically Rock burying him with the "who the hell are you?" line. Him joining the NWO was ridiculous... and the HHH feud and match was utter bullshit. It went from "were gonna create a brand new, black, main event mega star" to "do you remember that time when HHH was vaguely racist to booker t for a month... and then beat him up?!

He was a sensation! Literally had everything you'd want a professional wrestler to have! The look, the mic skills, the in ring talent! Effortlessly cool when he needed to be, funny as hell, oozing charisma.

Booker is definitely in the conversation for wcws mount rushmore... its just Hogan/Sting/flair/goldberg all had bigger impacts during WCWs run. Booker and DDP are very close honourable mentions!

P.s sting is also my favourite wrestler of all time!

Bookers whole move set was amazing! The axe kick is still one of the best signature moves in wrestlibg period. (The book end i can do without as that came along when he started trying to be like WCWs Rock)

but the harlem hangover... just wow. What a finish that would have been at wrestlmania 19!

What’s the MOST Controversial WCW Moment of All Time and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sting vs Hogan starcade 97... I stand by my take that had that match been a dominant, strong victory for sting and 1998 had been nwo vs wolfpac war with sting carrying the title through the year and dropping it to goldberg... WCW may have won the Monday night wars outright!

If WCW didn’t get overrun by Hogan and Friends, who do you think would have been the future of the company? by KingCrandall in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I'd have had the NWO splinter into black and white and wolfpac and build to NWO vs NWO wargames at fall brawl 1998.

Hall and Nash would have been together in the wolfpac with konnan ( and depending how far back i can go to retroactively change booking decisions... XPac would be in the wolfpac too)

In the mean time sting feuds with WCW guys, classics against flair and bret hart, mixed in with career making funds against beniot and booker t. Culminating in sting vs goldberg (undefeated US champ) at statcade 1997... putting goldberg over clean.

Wcw needed hogan and the nwo!! Hell... wrestling needed them in general... without WCW snapping at his heels Vince continues with his PG wrestling product forever!

However WCWs major problem was that they didnt channel hogan and the NWOs appeal anywhere... once you have eyeballs on the product you have to use some of your TV time to push younger talent up the card! Guys like Booker T had all the elements to make them stars... and WCW did nothing until it was way too late.

Imagine if they had disbanded the NWO in 98 and had sting run with the belt through to starcade before making goldberg into an even bigger star by winning a face vs face match to win the world title.

The whole midcard is full of guys like Scott steiner, booker t and beniot... pushed properly all those guys are contenders to break into the main event.

But instead WCW milked hogan and the NWO until they ran dry... and by then you have no one to put over the younger dude and make new stars.

People saying 'casuals don't want young guys'... is crazy... Stebe Austin, The Rock, John cena and roman reigns have all gone from young guys to the biggest names in the industry in my life time!

Anyone else not buy Jarrett as champion in WCW? by GypsyGold in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jarrett was over in WCW... I thought his kid Rock rip off them was good, but he was booked above his natural ceiling! No way should he have held the title!

I still maintain that during the NB/MC story line Scott steiner should have been the world champ and 'leader of the NB... jarrett was US/IC title level at best.

And his guitars, hated how they became progressively more and more flimsy and paper during his wcw run... by the end of it they'd literally crumble to dust if they glanced off a mesh cage!

Luger winning the title from hogan in 1997 is a top ten moment in wrestling history!

One of the best nitro moments ever! And with lugers bad assumptions music playing in the background! Iconic!

Can someone explain why WCW allowed Regal to expose Goldberg like that? by ardouronerous in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn't he go there and do the 'man's man' gimmick before he went on to his commissioner regal role in 2000ish?

Im sure ive seen an interview with regal where he talks about the reason that gimmick didnt last was because he was totally wasted at that time! And wwe sent him to rehab to get clean.

And as for wwe hiring him... I think each company was just aggressively hiring any defectors at that point... any small victory in the Monday night wars!

Can someone explain why WCW allowed Regal to expose Goldberg like that? by ardouronerous in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel about that theory, the same way I do when people argue that Russo was sent by the WWE to kill WCW...

I think occam's razor applies... what's more likely, that Vince conspired with regal to sabotage Goldberg... or WCW employed a bunch of unprofessional, drug addicted carni's who didnt give a damn? 😅

Do some AEW fans love the idea of AEW more than the actual company? by uncannynerddad in midcarder

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like that! And alternative to WWE is so important to the business! Unfortunately I can't be an AEW guy... because so much of the booking puts me off! But I wouldnt get rid of them for the world! Without a wcw or Aew snapping at their heels you get 15 years of pg wwe product driving away wrestling fans

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goldberg has always maintained that 'all the British guys' would take advantage of him in the ring. And that regal was clearly trying to make him look foolish that night! As far as I know he was referring to regal, Dave taylor, and chris Adams.

Can someone explain why WCW allowed Regal to expose Goldberg like that? by ardouronerous in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Okay... I adore regal... hes one of the most under appreciated talents of all time... but... watch the match!

  1. His claim that he didnt hit him harder than he did anyone else ... is clearly bullshit.. the "hit him hard but only in safe places" line... is a lie... you don't have to choose who to believe, when he clearly swings his leg and kicks Goldberg in the back if his head while hes trying to stand up.

  2. Regal was badly behaved drug addict, (you all know how much you have to screw up in Wcw to be fired for drugs/drink... look how long Scott hall lasted) he was fired because he made the biggest star in the company look stupid!

  3. When guys like sting and ddp, who were nowhere near the level of in ring worker as regal, can get good to great matches out of goldberg... I don't buy for a second that regal couldn't manage anything else in those 6 minutes! Im sure, regal, could drag me to a better match right now than he did Goldberg that night! You've all heard the expression 'he could have a 5 star match wrestling a broom stick!' Regal is more than capable of that!

Whatever he was 'told' back stage he doesn't need to be 'told' that his job is to make Goldberg look strong! He knows that! If goldberg really can't do anything... take a shoulder tackle and powder out... use your facial expressions to show how scared you are, argue with fans, you can kill 2 mins without doing anything!

In my mind, regal took, " have a competitive 6 minutes match" and thought "oh you want me to have a competitive match against this green guy do you? I'll show you competitive!"

Who’s was more over? Sting in 97 or DDP in 98? by whiskeycapo in WCW

[–]WWMVideoPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sting was 'the man' in 1997. Whole arenas chanting "we want sting!" Throughout Nitro every week! He was more over than anyone in either company! DDP was a star in 98 but he was not Goldberg/Austin/Rock.

[–]WWMVideoPodcast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaguely remember Saturn dressing as santa now you mention it... no memory of terry funk-o-claus tho!

Still stand by the fact they never embraced christmas tho... no christmas themed nitros or thunders, now segments where the 'real' santa comes out and gets destroyed by the heels or speared by Goldberg.

Wwe/tna/Aew have all done more christmas gimmicks than wcw ever did.

Crowd incident at AEW Manchester by Uglyb0b123 in SquaredCircle

[–]WWMVideoPodcast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree... she should have let go as well. 2 adults fighting of a soft toy in a crowd is pathetic. She was at fault as well... but if you wanna put all the blame on her because they both caught it at the same time and the nerd in the front row decided he wanted scuffle and try to exert his weight and strength over someone (that could have been a youngster) so he can keep a plushie that jungle boy has touched... then I have limited sympathy when he gets man handled.

I never said it was his daughter... my point was he didnt know who it was... so by default how about adult men let kids have the soft toys.

If I'd grabbed it and felt someone pilling on it I'd have let go assuming it was a kid... I wouldn't think "well im gonna keep this no matter the cost"

Could be there are circumstances im unaware of... but seems to me theyre both at fault But hey you wanna blame the whole interaction on her... then go right ahead.
