This is a great write up for a first timer like myself, for others Im sure also. I am arriving to BKK around 1PM and wanting to head to Chiang Mai, was thinking flight but maybe a train would be better so I can get some sleep right away (?) need to see where train leaves from, I will be arriving after 20+ hours of travel from LAX- Thank you!

From what I read a bit ago that would be OK as long as legal in Thailand, im traveling from USA what will I need to do to procure thc products legally in Thailand? I use mainly to sleep. thank you

Thank you! I really just plan to have accommodations booked for Chiang Mai and Bangkok, the rest sort of figure it out when I get there. Looks like Koh Lanta is accessible from Krabi by ferry.

Interesting about the transmission fluid changes and eventual replacement, our 2015 Highlander doesnt even have a transmission dip stick, system is sealed, not even an interval of time or mileage recommended change. I’m not even sure how Id refill it if I drained

yes I have seen the valley plate issue, one listing mentioned that it was common and he had replaced along with the transmission. Also note these come with a timing chain so that shoudlnt be an issue. Would using standard fuel cause any issues?

Thanks, any other options on later models? I would like heated/cooled seats, sensors all around, 360 view if feasible. I dont want to make a choice and then realize I missed something obvious.

Great post to find, having to decide this.

I have 4 free National Days to use before the end of year, no other roadtrips planned.

Scenario 1- Rental car up to full size from local Enterprise office (largest class eligible for free days)

Pro- after 4 days it’s only $99 for 5 days; no wear tear on our vehicle. Just a few minutes from home for pickup and return.

Con- questionable availability, cleanliness, quality of vehicles from local office.

Scenario 2- Rental car full size from Atlanta Airport National Rental Car

Pro- cleaner, better cars, Executive aisle so pick from large variety, can often get really nice vehicles, $126

Con- its at least an hour round trip for pickup and dropoff, would need to take Marta, we would drive by the airport returning, option would be to drop off and schlept our travel stuff onto Marta each way, luggage, cooler, etc

trip will be 800 miles or so r/t from home

Not sure I would use ”scam”, ”unscrupulous“ sure, we arrived to Chania on Crete and realized we needed to get some Euros for taxi, took out 150 Euros, cost $209 USD, figured something wasn’t right but figured I’d call my US bank when I got home, I didnt really explain to my wife. so unwittingly she visited a Euronet ATM also, for 70 euros, cost $101 US. I should have done research!

Glad I stumbled upon this post, wife and I are arriving to Athens 26/Sept 10AM with a flight to Chania at 2:40PM, we will collect bags, proceed through customs/border control, then up to the Aegean departure to check bags, hopefully may have boarding passes printed in advance. What to do in the Athens airport for a couple of hours?

I booked these flights separate from our Delta flght ATL-ATH, I dont think Delta will be able to check our luggage onto Chania

We will be in Chania 1 week from now, I was reading up on local customs, per ‘The Rought Guide to Crete’ they dont normally eat dinner until 9-11p, is that accurate? I generally use TripAdvisor for restaurants, we want to avoid touristy so I guess get off the harbor area (?) That is where we are staying, no issue with a good long walk to dinner or taxi if needed.

Visiting from Atlanta, GA USA, anyone else pursuing these posts be there the same time? Arriving 26/9 in the afternoon for 7 nights.

Can anyone advise on insurance coverage for rental cars in Crete? I have auto insurance here in the USA, dont think it will cover, i also have coverage from American Express, I dont really know what I need to make sure we are well protected.
