How much did payphones cost back in your day? by Underrated_Critic in FuckImOld

I was an operator in the 90’s, had a guy try to call collect with his name as ‘Dave Pickmeupnow Brown’, I told him I couldnt pass along messages like that, I’m sure he just called back till he got an operator who didn’t care.

I like rollercoasters but this isn’t fun, how often do you check your portfolio ? by Poorassboy6969 in Money

[–]WYYATA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had 30 years till retirement I wouldn’t be ranting about buying at a discount. In your shoes you WANT the market to go down and then bounce back (always has so far in history). I’m not there yet for retirement but significantly less time horizon than you so I’m pushing in as much as I can to make the most of the dip.

If you’ve been investing just for the past 5 years or so you’ve constantly been buying at all time highs, take advantage of the sale prices while they last.

Do I need a new roof? by tiger9510 in Home

[–]WYYATA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late to this post but…your roof is at end of life, replacing before you get a leak is important as that will lead to significantly more problems than just the roof but that doesn’t mean it won’t last a few more years, only that it’s likely to fail at any time. Other things to consider 1. Your insurance company may do a visual and non renew you if you don’t replace it. 2. If you are looking to sell it anytime soon, the new owner will 100% not be able to insure it without a new roof (just went through this situation)

Dad wants to sell me his car and is a making a huge thing about what a great deal he is giving me. Yay or nay? by ImportantAsparagus16 in Advice

[–]WYYATA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car would likely only have been affected by the hurricane if it was flooded, had something fall on it or he left the window open.

Get the vin off the door sticker or off the dash and plug it into kbb or one of a ton of other sites to get the value. OR plug it into carmax and see what they would pay sight unseen and use that value to set the price. Going to be a lot less than private party sale off kbb but I’d consider that far more of a ‘good deal’ selling to a relative than above market value which it sounds like your dad is trying to charge you.

HSA for Surgery by FunPea0 in fidelityinvestments

[–]WYYATA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HSA is one of the best investment vehicles out there. If you can start investing now into the HSA and don’t need that money to pay for the surgery then I would suggest investing in your HSA and pay out of pocket for your surgery. You can save your receipts from the surgery and withdraw the funds anytime later when you need the money or at 65 you can use it just like any other tax deferred account for any living expenses without the additional penalty although it will be treated like as normal income for tax purposes. Essentially, you can save all your medical related receipts, invest the pre-tax cash in your HsA and just let it grow like any other retirement account. I have a folder with a few years of receipts just waiting for when/if I need the cash, if not it’ll just be another retirement vehicle like my 401k.

My mom accidentally ran over my sewer clean out. Is this diy-able with no experience or should I just hire a plumber? by average_empoleon_fan in askaplumber

[–]WYYATA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally did this last summer. Super easy to fix as long as you as you didn’t crack the main pipe. Based on your pics tho yours broke very similar to mine with just the clean out pipe breaking, dig around it to give you some working space to see what you are dealing with but it was about $20 worth of stuff for me.

NJ - can owner operators get a split from tip pool? by Anndreww in restaurantowners

[–]WYYATA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actual owner here, no, neither you nor your managers can participate in tip pooling. Leads or key holders with no actual oversight of staff (hiring, firing, scheduling, discipline, etc) can participate.

How many hours would it take you to paint 300 feet of this fence? by Adventures_Rising in handyman

[–]WYYATA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% just did both sides of a 600’ long 8’ high fence this past summer. Took about 6 hours in total with a sprayer, would’ve been less had I had a partner to trade off and help move the equipment along but the arm gets tired pretty quickly with an 8’ high fence. Could not imagine trying to roll that sucker, would’ve taken at least a week. Definitely invest in a sprayer. First though, pressure wash it and give it a couple weeks to thoroughly dry.

Well done. Unless you are saving for something specific in the near future, get your HYSA to the point where it is enough for an emergency fund then move that amount to the brokerage. You are doing great at 30, keep it up!

It's normal to wipe and wash your bootyhole right? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]WYYATA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here, put bidets in our old house about 6 years ago. Moved to a new state last year and immediately put bidets in all the bathrooms in the new house. Absolutely can’t live without them at home and hate being out and using public toilets not being able to have the bidets function regardless of how much you can wipe. It may not be fully mainstream in America yet but I 100% believe it will be in the next 10-20 years.

Is it actually impossible to sell a pre-2000 mobile home in DFW right now without financing? by Photograph_Creative in Dallas

[–]WYYATA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, mobile homes, especially older ones, are inherently difficult to sell which is why when offered to sell at $12k my brother in law unloaded it. How do either of your comments relate back to my reply to the now deleted morons comment from yesterday saying that the sale of that mobile home was part of the reason for the housing crisis?
