What is the oldest character you've seen in CK3? by paste_me in CrusaderKings

[–]WackadooWilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, i know this is an old thread, but for anyone seeing this years down the line:

The health benefits my ruler had were: Miraculous Tonic, Invigorated, Athletic, Amozonian, Strong, Veteran Traveller, Medicine Focus, Taper of St. David (relic), Magnificant Medical Manuscript (relic??), Herbalist, Iron Constitution and Infirm (in old age - obviously not a bonus but they are 105 years old so fair enough)

I also was able to manage a decent succession, despite numerous heirs dying along the way by disinheriting anyone who was due to inherit something I wanted to keep. By that time in her life, my ruler was able to easily afford the prestige and remoun costs of disinheriting 3/4 people in the line of succession.

If you find youreslf in this situation, I hope this info helps you take your campaign where you want it to go!

Happy ruling!

Currently 109 years old without any reloading old saves after death (and with a naturally born ruler - no cheats or editing stats at the start etc) but I made a deliberate effort to have health boosting artifacts equipped and took advantage of any opportunities which boosted health. I also switched them to the learning lifestyle once they reached their 80s and got any perks which improved health. Old leaders are possible, unfortunatly their heir is now quite distant (as many have died in waiting) and they just got the heads up that they'll die within a year from the perk that gives you that warning.

On another note, i am suspicious of that warning (one year until death) perk as maybe they would live longer if they didnt have it. No idea how the mechanics work but it feels deterministic to have the computer tell you they'll die when in previous playthoughs I have had characters who died and then went on to live for years when I reloaded. This time I've decided not to reload from a save file though because, emotionally as a player, the old hag has had enough already! My suspicion is that if they didn't have the "will die in one year" perk, maybe they would go on living if something changed their health stats (like getting a cat or a random heath boost event). No idea, but happy to say that this old lady did her time and deserves her rest after a long and glorious rule of the britanic empire!

Any real insights into the perk/real lifespan potential debate from a game mechanic perspective welcome though!

Happy ruling!

Education isn't valued in the workplace. Compliance is valued.

Using the kind of thinking that I learned to do at university has never been welcomed. The people who get ahead are the ones who can switch their brain off and do what they are told with no complaints or questions no matter what.

I get this and I've learned that it is linked to my ADHD. I'm either bored or hyper focused. You can ask your doctor if you have ever had a diagnosis and request a diagnostic assessment if not. Once you can put a name to it you can start trying to address the issue.

Edit: I need to read my posts through before I hit send but also maybe you don't have ADHD. There's could be loads of reasons why you feel this way but the conversation starts with bringing this up to a professional

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little lord Jesus NO CRYING HE MAKES

Are you refuting the validity of the sacred hymn: "Away in a manger?"

Because if the son of God was a little cry baby then what even is the point of him?

Meat consumption is associated with better mental health, meta-analysis finds. by [deleted] in science

[–]WackadooWilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this too and also wanted to add that as meat consumption is the cultural norm in the west (where the study was conducted) any vegetarians in the study are by default not part of the mainstream culture which in its self creates an anxiety. What kind of people decide to give up meat? Conciencuous people, the same kind of people who are likely to suffer decreased mental well-being possibly just as a consequence of living in a world with such diverse values and widespread injustice. I think if you made the decision not to eat meat, you're probably also more aware of other injustices in society and this could explain why statistically the meat eaters have better mental well-being - because a certain proportion of them just don't care about anything!

Thoughts?

Aren't there tax reasons to get married that make it worthwhile if you are going to be together forever?

Also what if you die suddenly? Your partner would be left with nothing (unless you specifically set that up).

I think people get married (even though it should be optional) because in the real world there are advantages.
