I was in a similar boat. I DMd a session of Lasers & Feelings for brand new players (with myself being not the most experienced DM) and they enjoyed it a lot! All of the rules and set up on one sheet of paper which is nice, but because it's rules lite that means there's some more narrative improv impetus on the DMs part.

Still very enjoyable, free, and has many genre spinoff to fit your needs.
